I've always thought that there's more than one way to cut down fruball. AF days are a good test of will power for me but I'm also pleased if I have less on a drinking day too. It was always my fear that I'd just use my drinking days to play catch up (i.e. drink the same as before concentrated into the weekend) but that hasn't happened fortunately. So although my targets are low I know I've genuinely cut down. Counting units is another variation on the same theme.

Yesterday was a case in point. I went out for lunch had one planned glass of wine and didn't carry on in the evening. I had a cup of tea from choice.:)

    Back on it today.

    3 AFDs please Shaggy.

Successful controlled drinking there Maman :T

Jumping in here to introduce myself.
Forty Six, hugely over weight, crap health, staggeringly in debt.
No control over my eating, spending or drinking.
!!!! day in work and feeling very fed up.

Normally it is at this point I would reach for a bottle of wine and struggling not to.
Couldn't think of anywhere else to turn for support.

Any words of wisdom gratefully received.
    Thanks

    Welcome and good luck.
This thread is great, however if you find it doesn't work for YOU (we know it works for some others) then you may want to seek other ways to cut down on your drinking.

I use this thread AND other things.

You may want to see your Dr because we are not medically trained to give advice.
We can tell you our own experiences and give HUGE support, but are not too qualified to do much more than that. If your health is suffering, you may want to seek proper medical opinion.

    Belated happy birthday, Barny!
14/31 Just. Interview for new job not great - left all prep work/questions at home on dining room table. Grrrr. Just as well I didn't - disulferam would have made me violently sick!

Sorry the interview didn't go as well as hoped FBO. You never know, you may have been the most impressive candidate despite you not thinking you performed as well as you'd hoped you would.

Clarabow, it sounds as though you're struggling to get a toehold on things. If a (((hug))) would help, please accept one from me. I totally endorse Maman's very practical advice; if you can delay the first drink as long as possible you'll be taking control, drinking less as a result and will feel a lot better for it the next day. That's how things start to fall into place - one step at a time. Good luck with it and if being here helps, it would be lovely to have you along with us.

16/31 please, Shaggy. (Excellent idea for the ALD Challenge. I'd have been up for that in the olden days.)
    Better is good enough.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

:A That would be fab! Thank you Shaggy :) I have only had 3 or 4 non drinking days this month but have only consumed 2 units on drinking days which is a staggering improvement for me :T

Great :T Set a target of ALDs for the rest of July (you can set your own target - just let me know that you scored an ALD - so say you set a target of 3 units and you succeed shout out ALD). If you have kept a record let me know how many ALDs you've had in July so far.

I have set mine too. I have set my own personal limit of "low" as 3 units or less.

If anyone else wants to join in / switch challenges shout out some ALDs targets. Or maybe some will want to both?

12/22 AFDs today. Had a horrid day. Mum rang me at 5 a.m. by mistake, but thought I had rung her so wanted to chat. NO, I am NOT a morning person. She had also sent me a blank text at 4.20. I rang the care home at a reasonable time this morning to check she was ok, she is. After I went back to sleep I had a horrible nightmare about being unable to walk to where I needed to go, and no-one would help. I can see what brought that on.

Then, after being offered a part-time job this evening, DH tells me I need to get more hours. I've been job hunting for months, and this is the first offer I've had, so of course I'm going to take it. Yes, I'll still be looking for work with more hours, but it'd be madness to turn this down while there's nothing else on offer. He makes it sound like I'm sponging.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
