Grrrr....
Sitting here with a hangover and rather cross at myself for it. We are away in a forest retreat for the weekend with all the kids and dogs trying to relax after the stress of moving house but have rather indulged and both the diet and AF promises seem to have flown out of the first open window. Doesn't feel very relaxing now.
I stupidly let DH and SS go shopping to get some essentials and we are now living on a diet of cream cakes, Pimms, strawberries (mainly for the Pimms), fruit cider and pizzaA nice idea, but it has left me feeling very sorry for myself this morning. I didn't sleep at all well and consequently am totally drained. And my face looks like a crumpled wet paper bag. Very attractive.
I think I need some tips from you guys to get me back on track. How do you resist temptation when all the things you love are offered up to you? I know I'll feel grim the following morning but ATM that doesn't seem to be enough...
I loved drink. That first refreshing beer, sipping a nice wine having made a big event of popping the cork and poring it in a lovely glass, the companionship and camaraderie with others while drinking, the belly laughs, etc
I did enjoy all those things, and no doubt still would do.
I cannot have the above without the hangovers, the guilt, the shame, the anxiety, etc
The feeling that I am really letting myself and others down.
It made me feel like !!!!, look like !!!!, and sometimes act like a !!!!.
I don't love drink anymore. Myself and alcohol was a very important relationship in my life. Indeed it often took priority over my relationships with my loved ones. That relationship today is over.
I cannot have the good bits of booze without the bad. I wish I could but I cannot. And that's that.
I got help (in a group like others in this thread). Amazingly, the temptation to drink left me quite early on. I have no desire to drink bleach, and I have no desire to drink alcohol. Both are detrimental to my health and wellbeing.
So what worked for me was getting help so there is no temptation, as opposed to being able to resist temptation.
There are a variety of ways to do that, and good luck for the future.0 -

graeme nice post. Very thoughtful.
HB thanks for the linky x
Dizzy I guess if we had not done the same at least once (a thousand times!) we wouldn't be here.
I guess if moderation isn't working, it might be time for a rest from booze altogether?0 -
1 drink, 3 cigarettes. Moderation working for me tonight and off to bed soon0

ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
