Morning :hello:
3 more AFDs for Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

BTW whoever mentioned Belle, I'm due you a huge hug. xx She's amazing.
It was someone on this thread that turned me on the B***s B**e, so all I was doing was passing it on.
But it was defnitely me that mentioned Belle and she's been a constant wonderful source of help and support throughout. I'm exactly two weeks off my one year sober anniversary and have planned what I'm doing to celebrate and shared it with her. I don't know that I would have made it this far without her so I'm very, very grateful to her.I thought I wouldn't cope with the group aspect of Slimming World but although I still dislike the inane clapping it did work for me. Good to meet people in the same boat, offer support and share ideas. Which I suppose is why this thread is so good.:A
I joined a Parkinson's Support Group when I was really struggling with my mother's care and I will be forever grateful to them for their kindness and support. The hardest part was making the commitment to actually go to the group the first time, to walk into the room on my own. I have no idea why I find it so hard to ask for and accept supportive help but I sometimes think it's a very British thing to find the whole idea uncomfortable. The strange thing is, I love the group dynamics of a great group; there's nothing quite like it - and I totally agree about this thread.8/22 AFDs tonight, which is an achievement after a rough day with mum. She was feeling anxious which in turn made me anxious.
Luckily her two sisters came to visit her this afternoon so I escaped to do my weekly shop. I even bought wine and put it in the fridge.
Well done Satchmo. Hang on in there.
11/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -
:hello: Hello everybody. Newbie here - HoneyBear pointed me in your direction. I have been fighting alcohol for years in various ways, but it finally seems to be working. Today I am 8 weeks sober and feeling positive. I will be in for total abstinence, but it will be helpful to have to report.
Two questions - alcohol free wine at Sains, what is it? i have only found the Mr A alcohol free muscat which is sweet and fizzy. I'm desperate for a dry white wine. Never really drank anything else.
Also, who's Bella?
Can I go in for 11/31 please.:TGoals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0 -

Hi furrybeast. I don't know about belle either.

Grrrr....
Sitting here with a hangover and rather cross at myself for it. We are away in a forest retreat for the weekend with all the kids and dogs trying to relax after the stress of moving house but have rather indulged and both the diet and AF promises seem to have flown out of the first open window. Doesn't feel very relaxing now.
I stupidly let DH and SS go shopping to get some essentials and we are now living on a diet of cream cakes, Pimms, strawberries (mainly for the Pimms), fruit cider and pizzaA nice idea, but it has left me feeling very sorry for myself this morning. I didn't sleep at all well and consequently am totally drained. And my face looks like a crumpled wet paper bag. Very attractive.
I think I need some tips from you guys to get me back on track. How do you resist temptation when all the things you love are offered up to you? I know I'll feel grim the following morning but ATM that doesn't seem to be enough...0 -

:hello: Welcome FBO! I didn't know if you knew about this thread hence the comment else-thread. Most people here are cutting down but there some that are totally AF and the combination seems to work really well. Eight weeks is brilliant!
It might be worth trawling the supermarket's websites and/or asking Customer Services. I've found a sparkling white AF wine at Sainsburys which is useful for high days and holidays. It's about £2.75 a bottle and is with the white wines. It's not dry, though. I wasn't a beer drinker at all, ever, but Beck$ B1ue AF lager has been a lifesaver and it doesn't make me want to drink red wine at all, which was my tipple of choice as well as G&T.
Sains have a big selection of AF beers but they muddle up low alcohol and alcohol free beer and lager so I've had to be bit careful about selections. Morrisons has an AF red and white wine, neither of which I like but some people find they work for them.
Belle is here. She stopped drinking three years ago, started a blog to chart her progress and it's morphed into something quite amazing. She's been an absolute godsend for me but she's like marmite, so it's worth dipping into her blog to see if she might work for you or not. (That's for Alchemilla, too.)Planned wine tonight, with Motown tunes playing?. Sweet
Loved this!11/31 AFDs and three months without alcohol
Huge, huge congratulations, Barny!
Dizzy Imp, firstly, *healing vibes* for your poorly head and buckets of self-love heading your way because over-celebrating is so easy to do and so difficult to live with the morning after. If you really want to know, the only way I can ever hope to resist temptation is to deal with one issue at a time (drink, diet, any bad habits - pick just one) and plan a treat or a distraction to have instead when you would normally over-indulge. Whatever a 'treat' is depends on you; only can decide what would make stopping a destructive bad habit worth it. For me it was exotic fruit every single day and handmade chocolates once a week - which worked out a lot cheaper than the booze.
There are people who can tackle two or three things at once (booze, fags, losing weight) but they are in the minority; most of us are more likely to succeed if we focus on just one thing and, as I learned from Belle, 100 days is a great target for embedding new behaviours.
12/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0
