What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

I'm here as a guy with his knees on the floor and his palms up. I've had a bit of an ultimatum. I've been drinking since 2011. It all started as a calm few tinnies watching the Euro's in 2012, but since then, my drinking has got completely out of control. I have alternated between a bottle (or two) of Rose a night, to around 7-8 tins of lager a night for the past 4 years. Over the past few months I have been feeling the "real" me telling me that i'm drifting, that i'm going to waste, but have done nothing about it, shrugging it off thinking everything will be OK. I have an alcohol problem. Tomorrow is going to be the start of something new. It's going to be cold turkey, and it's going to be ridiculously hard, as I quite literally don't know "life" without alcohol. I would like to get in on this thread please, to help track my progress. I've overcome gambling, and i can overcome alcohol abuse. Mods, if you please...

Welcome Jimmy*c! I hope you find being here as helpful as helpful as I have. Are you planning on cutting down, or giving up?

    4/30 please, Shaggy.

Thanks for your reply honey bear. It's slightly awkward but i'm planning on giving up.... It's a shame that I will have to go to family occasions and say "no" when someone offers me a nice cold pint, but I feel that's the only way forward. I have a holiday in Fuerteventura in Septembter, and I may have a few there depending on my progress in the cloudy UK. The main thing is that I disconnect myself from alcohol at home - It is not acceptable any more.

I'd like to get in on this forum, so if anyone could point me in the right direction as far as numbers go, that'd be great :) .......

2/21 for me please shaggy. Anyone else find it easiest not to drink on non-work days? No need for the off-switch I guess?

It helps Shaggy, our lovely score-keeper, if you can put your target for the month in red, and again when you post your days when you don't drink.

My arithmatic is cr*p, but I think there are 26 more days in April including tonight, so if tonight was your first this month without a drink, you'd put 1/26 in red. Does that make sense?

I'm not sure how it all works, but tonight is my last night after alcohol. Tomorrow is going to be my first day without alcohol. I will check in tomorrow for my first AFD :)
