365days - really not good re. radiotherapy, I wouldn't want to have that decision to make. The radical hysterectomy is a pretty horrible operation if I remember correctly - keep smiling - you are through the worst.
Plan something really positive and brilliant to look forward to.
Greycatlady - I'd forgotten all about tomato juice, I've been enjoying lime and fizzy water but I think I might get some tomato juice in for a change
((Hugs)) to anyone who needs one.
I'm on the lime and soda tonight as run out of apple juice. Think I prefer apple juice and soda if I'm honest but at least the soft drinks are keeping me off the wine.0 -
23/31 AFDs for me tonight. Mood much better today as DH apologised mid-morning, and I had my BP retested today with a reading of 127/75 which is normal for me, hurray. I also managed a short lunch-time walk.
We had someone viewing the house at 5pm, and the woman was figuring out how to fit her bookcase into the dining room when I arrived home. Two more viewings on Saturday booked. The new estate agent is so much better and busier.
365 glad to hear your news.
Hugs for everyone struggling. Remember though, that if you are struggling it means you are trying. Before you joined this thread, were you even trying? What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
23/31 and shattered, heading for bed.
Eaten way too much again today, but, it's not alcohol. Fighting my body battles one at a time!0 -

Thanks.
I'm no glowing example this month but I teetered tonight and did NOT fall off!:D0 -

365, that is great news about your op and being given a good prognosis - I hope that you are feeling better and stronger everyday.
Crazymum and GC, thank you for the thoughtful posts, I think part of the 'struggle' is to manage to convince yourself that it is OK not to drink, regardless of the pressure that you might feel form society in general or individuals in particular.Trying to keep in budget.

Habit for me is having a cup of tea, not coffee, as my first drink of the day, or always flossing and then brushing my teeth (as opposed to other way round)
However, my drinking was no 'habit'. When it was costing me a lot more than just money, damaging relationships and jobs, etc I would have wanted to stop it if it was a mere habit.
But it took a lot for me to want to stop drinking, and I still have to put some so I don't feel the desire to dink.
My drinking was habitual, but no mere habit. Most habits don't destroy your health.
I call my condition 'alcoholism', but others would say 'addiction', 'dependency', etc - it's all semantics.
What matters is that I do the work so I no longer have the desire to drink. There would be no point me not drinking for a month and then picking up where I left off. I needed to change myself so I no longer had the desire to drink alcohol.
If I want a drink for a prolonged period of time, there is no doubt in my mind that I would eventually pick up a drink. I am no superman so do not have endless supplies of will power.
So changing myself is what works for me - and I have to make sure I stay changed and don't go back to the old me. There's no time limit on that.
FWIW the Concise Oxford Dictionary definition of an addict is "a person addicted to a habit, especially one dependent on a specific drug" .
Another definition of addictive behavior is "a repeated habit pattern that increases the risk of disease and/or associated personal and social problems."
A dude called Krivanck believes that addiction is best explained as a spectrum of severity. Makes sense to me.What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Hi,
Newbie here please (sorry about username - it really is the cat's name)
Very brief history - I used to drink every night, but started cutting down 3 years ago when DD1 was born. Has been a little hit and miss, but appears to have improved a little over the last few months as SWMBO now has evening job. Not that she drove me to drink - just that I have found it easier with the responsibility of looking after 2 little ones not to be tempted.
Anyway 15/20 AFD so far this month...0
