4/20 for me - but not sleeping - I remember this when I did dry January last year - but at the time I was going through some pretty stressful stuff - life is busy but definitely not as stressful so I'm guessing its the detox that's making me not sleep even though I am really tired until bed time - then everything just goes round and round in my head!!! Might try some radio tonight.
it does worry me that being totally off alcohol for even a few days definitely is having a physiological affect! So basically I have a physical dependency!!!!0 -
7/31 AFDs tonight, so I've reached my first smiley hurray.
OH and I took some time out this morning to go and watch the roiling waves crashing onto Ainsdale beach. Roiling is our word of the day :-)What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Just checking in with 4/18
Haven't managed to catch up but hope everyone is doing ok.
Thanks Shaggy. XMFIT -T5 #420 -
Checking in with 2/14 please Shaggy.
Honeybear, thanks for your tip about arriving with a drink, I grabbed a tonic in the bar early and managed to nurse it all the way through dinner without anyone noticing or caring. I feel quite pleased with myself now and want tomorrow to be AF too.
BHB I was chuckling about the whip earlier, that was so funny.
Sleep well everyone.0 -
I had a much better sleep last night. I went to bed around midnight and slept until the alarm went off at 7. I had taken the precaution of having a sleeping tablet (over the counter medicine) and it worked a treat.
I'll take another tonight just because I am afraid of not sleeping again, I won't have any over the weekend when not getting off to sleep doesn't matter as much, I'll be able to have a lie in.
Well done to us all for getting this far, even though we've had a few wobbles!

HI all so lovely to see such inspirational and truthful posts , This is why I should always check in and why I shouldn't have left in the first place even if I was "DRY"
Honeybear such lovely words and brilliant tips. The only thing I can think of is when we go to the bar Hubby always buys for me at the same time ..when we arrive, so whenever I have asked for a soft drink people think I'm pregnant (Oh the perils of being a woman of child bearing age) I would dearly adore a cup if tea to relax with but they don't do them! Any ideas there..Could just say A pint of lime and soda..I'm SOOO thirsty?
I am so very exhausted and can't sleep seems to be a thing..does anyone know why exactly?
Declaring 3/20 Please xx
BHB The bells last night for me too ..I was out walking in the dark and cold on the way home thinking ooh a nice Brandy would warm me up (Don't have any in the house anyway..then thought of that and thought i'd get some Red..but then thought of my pledge and came home nad had a hot pot of tea instead.)
Oh have taken up knitting..makes it harder to knit if you have something in both hands!
Loads of love to all, blessings for a good day xxCompers challenge 27/70

Morning all.
Have just spoken to my GP. Now realise some of my medication for GAD could keep me awake ..... Doh  I guess the drink covered it up.
She has adjusted it now so hopefully that will help on the sleep and anxiety front.
Gien - yes hope Jo is ok - perhaps she will be reading and pop her head in again
Wanna be free - The whip was very scary - a good incentive not to drinkDid the trick for a few weeks ...
Have a good day everyone - fingers arms and legs crossed should be OK again today.

Tiredness For those who are finding themselves feeling worse rather than better, can I just point out something that didn't occur to me for weeks after I stopped drinking? Dehydration is a massive cause of feeling tired, and for those of us who stop drinking suddenly without replacing that level of liquid, there's quite a good chance that dehydration may be exacerbating the situation. Good rule of thumb - if you're peeing less than you used to, you're probably dehydrated.
I find it takes a full 24 hours to rehydrate, so if you conscientiously drink more water one day, you might find yourself perking up the next day. It worked for me after someone on here suggested dehydration might be part of my problem when I knocked the boozing on the head.mummy2threeboys wrote: »The only thing I can think of is when we go to the bar Hubby always buys for me at the same time ..when we arrive, so whenever I have asked for a soft drink people think I'm pregnant (Oh the perils of being a woman of child bearing age) I would dearly adore a cup if tea to relax with but they don't do them! Hmm. There's a lot going on here, isn't there? Your experience isn't something that's happened to me, but for what it's worth these are the thoughts that crossed my mind reading your post.
My OH is really careful with money, so he definitely wouldn't buy me a drink without asking if I actually want one first. Have you told him that you don't always want to keep up with him? If anybody bought me a drink I didn't want - I'd just leave it. Do that more than once and most people would probably stop.
As to the 'pregnancy' thing - to be honest, it's nobody else's business why we choose to drink what we drink, so my answers vary when people ask, but I'm 58 so pregnancy isn't very likely! 'I just want to give my liver a day off' isn't confrontational, talks about health issues without lecturing people and is one of the truths that I think is worth spreading. I heard a liver specialist on a radio health programme last year and that was a sobering experience in itself.
The other one that got through to me was a breast cancer specialist (there is a link between booze and some breast cancers) but I'd have to think about how to phrase that as a one-liner. Any suggestions, anyone?
Does Wevverspoons do tea? They certainly do coffee.
And, finally, thirst is a jolly good reason to ask for a soft drink! However, I find anything with sugar in it doesn't quench thirst, which is how, possibly, bars manage to be so profitable - the products they're selling aren't actually doing the job you'd think.Better is good enough.0
