What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Like grassgirl, I find declaring early helps my resolve, but I know I won't fancy a drink today anyway, other than hot honey and lemon!

    Hello :hello:

Happy New Year to you all :j

Some of you may remember me from a while back... I had hypnotherapy to ditch the booze and it was hopeless. The hypno (which actually didn't put me under so wasn't hypno at all) had absolutely no effect whatsoever and my drinking has continued on the same, day on/day off pattern ever since with the odd few extra days thrown in.

Anyway, due to an enforced period of abstinence (I have flu so absolutely cannot face alcohol or cigs) I have decided (once again <sigh> ) that I have to nail this drinking issue!

I have literally been in bed for days but have made it downstairs to cook some dinner and am feeling very slightly better... of course, that flicks the switch in my brain which says "great, have some wine and cigs" so I am fighting that urge with every fibre of my being!

So, here I am, starting afresh for a new year and would like to challenge myself to SNC every single week and fewer drinking days in general.

    2/23 please Shaggy

    Good luck everybody :)

    1/28 AFDs today
  • Thank you Honey Bear but to be very honest by not drinking Im sleeping better not having that awful lethargy, looking better...skin problems sorted..drinking more water, exercing more.. walking the dogs legs off. Lost weight, found time to take up old hobbies...made all Christmas presents..got more money the list just goes on. It took someone on here to point out to me if I felt so much better without it why was I even contemplating another drink lol a doh moment :)
Now if anyone says about dry January I say give it a go but be careful you might just like it:rotfl::rotfl: :rotfl:

I'd echo every single word of your post AFoolWithMoney except I didn't make any Christmas presents. After drinking pretty much every day for 20 years, and having gone totally AF on 26 July last year I can't believe how different my life is already!

I've never gone back to smoking (stopped eight years ago, cold turkey having tried acupuncture, patches, hypnosis none of which had the slightest effect at all) and I don't intend to go back to drinking, either.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say the only time I would have a drink would be after I'd had a couple! Just not going there and hugely relieved by that.

Good to see you back, Fruball!

As I'm posting, I may just as well declare for the night, so, 2/31 please, Shaggy. Lovin' January's smiley, btw!
    Better is good enough.
