Don't hesitate to let me know if I've made a mistake! What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

I've found that caffeine effects my sleep much more than alcohol tbh. I no longer drink coffee after midday - I move to tea (mostly decaffeinated tea ) decaffeinated coffee (I like the Sainsbury's Gold Roast) or hot chocolate. I find now that even if a drink one "late" coffee it seems to effect my sleep.
I totally agree. I absolutely love strong, black real coffee and find that if I drink it after about 12.30 (midday +30, not midnight!) sleep that night is impossible. After that, fruit tea is the only thing I really enjoy - decaffeinated coffee is thinly flavoured hot water as far as I'm concerned, stuff of the devil. Yuk.
I keep meaning to make myself hot chocolate (we've always got cocoa in the cupboard for making brownies) but I never get round to it. Years ago I was told hot chocolate has caffeine in it, but I've never got round to checking.
They do say that if you can't sleep, having a hot drink is the first thing you should think of doing.Better is good enough.0 -
Hi shaggy - the score on the door for me is 4/21 and I'm finding that being on here has given me focus otherwise I would have given into temptation on Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday evening too.
Thanks for keeping scores - helps immensely

I'm pretty keen to go on doing what I'm doing, but I'm afraid that if I stay off the booze permanently I'll become one of those born again teetotallers who lecture everyone else about the evils of drink in a smug, self-satisfied way.I'm sure you wouldn't become like that - you have to be a very special person to acquire those character traits

You're probably run down satchmo, and no surprise there! Look after yourself and stick to the Lemsip.
Back from France and drank very responsibly. Yesterday was only a single glass of vin chaud as it was sooo cold. Out for Christmas do tonight but will be back on the wagon soon. I di mange last Monday before I went away.

There's always the possibility that there are at least three minds that think alike.

Speaking of which, the most ironic of ironic things has just happened. I drank, happily and heartily for 20 years, and like a responsible citizen always recycled glass bottles, although for a fair few years OH and I bought 12 x 10 litre boxes of red wine on our trips to France (we live in a ferryport). So, now that I drink Becks Blue and OH has a bottle of wine every 2 - 3 days, I still clank out to the car once a week to recycle the empties but we drink a LOT less booze than we used to, although there are a lot more bottles.
Today, for the first time, a neighbour commented on the clanking and said, 'Doesn't sound good.' She did NOT have a smile on her face and it has really !!!!!! me off! I genuinely am offended and I am very, very surprised by the strength of my reaction. I think the reason is that I would never, ever make a rude personal remark to someone and yet she obviously felt quite comfortable judging me - totally wrongly, as it happens.
As OH said, 'Doesn't it make you feel superior!'Better is good enough.0 -
5/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0

5/15 AFDs for last night, currently on anti-biotics got to have injections for a potential clot, which I'm being scanned for on Monday, was supposed to have been flying to Madrid this morning to watch the football.0

Barny, wishing you a speedy return to health, you can't be too careful with potential clots and flying is definitely a risk too far.
5/17 AFDs for last night which was a victory. I untwisted the cap on the bottle, but tightened it back on and made a hot chocolate instead. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0
