Your situation sounds testing in the extreme, Jake, and there but for the grace of god go I. I have no idea how much worse it could have been and I don't want to find out which is what is keeping me going now. I was talking to someone about it the other day, and it's amazing how much I've already allowed myself to forget about the last night's drinking. Horrible memories.
Huge good luck wishes for you Penny Saving. I hope your first day isn't too intimidating and you feel right at home there as quickly as possible.
Calling early for me in the circumstances - OH is home and is cooking me supper, but I'm going to allow myself a bit of confidence in my ability to say no to alcohol for once. I felt energetic today and although I'm still wading through treacle trying to get everything done I want to do, it was great not to feel sluggish - all day!

I was training for a 10k and everything was going great until we went away for the weekend and ended up having a few drinks every day for 5 days in a row. I ended up not doing the 10k. I went to watch instead and it was an amazing atmosphere (in my home town). I wished so much that I hadn't bailed out. I do know why I didn't do it, it was because of alcohol, simple as that. My body can't cope with drinking a lot and running (not at the same time obviously!
) I love running, it is important to me. It makes me feel good in myself. Alcohol doesn't. I need to remember that.
2/31 please Shaggy!
Great post. I identify a lot.
It took me a long time to realise it, but I put alcohol before everything I enjoy doing.
I previously had a few hobbies/sports I have always enjoyed doing, but I stopped doing all of them and drank more. Somehow, the alcohol pushed those things out of my life. No wonder it made me miserable.
For most normal people, they can change their drinking habits to reach their goals. For me, I'd change my goals to suit my drinking.
How many times did I say to myself "I am not drinking this month/week/etc" but justify it to myself that I didn't have to reach that goal?? Many many times.0 -
Thank you for the wishes Honeybear, I start at 11
Tonight we are going to my stepdaughters for dinner and i know the 'saying no' to alcohol will be tested. Her, her husband and my hubby will be straight on the wine or spirits and it would normally be expected that I join them...naturally. However, I will be sticking to the "I will drive" mantra and watch from the sidelines. Enjoy you day everyone!0 -
Well done everyone so far.
Penny I hope work went well and you have a nice evening.
Today tested me I won't lie but I'm home bathed and drinking herbal tea. So I'm declaring 4/31Mortgage Jan 13 99260.00 87253 April 2017

I was always only intending to have 'just the one' but I do know how tempting that idea is, so well done. I'm so glad the new job went well, too.Better is good enough.0
