Typo earlier. Dying to a Drink should have read Dying for a Drink. Ooops. Must be something going on there subconsciously!

Second typo earlier, my AF days this month so far are 28, not 27!

Thanks Maman. I think your observations are spot on, and if I fall off the wagon, I would hope I would have the self-discipline to get right back on.

There's a blogger called Belle who started the 100 Day Challenge for those of us who want to give it a bit of a try, and she'll support people who sign up for it on her blog (Tired of Thinking About Drinking) on a one to one basis if wanted. I tried it in January / February (without support) and fell off the wagon after 20 days, which is what prompted me to sign up to it this time properly (albeit without actually coughing up money), join this thread, start reading sober blogs that encompass stuff I can identify with and start reading books from the library.

    ETA @ 2351hrs: And it's now 29/31, please Shaggy.

One day to go :) I suspect there'll be wine tonight which means watching the vane without a steadying pint tomorrow, but, needs must.

OH has been drinking about a third of what he drank when we drank together. Yesterday he gave blood, because he is a good bloke, after a really good day's work.

So, he celebrated a bit - an extra glass of wine (which I poured and I pour generously) followed by a large scotch.

And today, guess what. He feels tired, is suffering from a lack of energy and has a headache. I politely suggested it might be a hangover but naturally, he says, it's because he gave blood.

I am going to end the month on 18/16 please Shaggy! Really chuffed that I managed to exceed my target :) I will drink today and tomorrow so that will be it for me until September.

For September please could I set my target at 18?

You sound like you're doing really well Honey Bear. I considered giving up drinking altogether when I read Allen Carr's book. I was only looking to cut down but once I started reading the book it really made me think. I've decided that cutting down is more the route for me - for now at least. I wouldn't rule out trying to stop altogether at some point though.

Your posts are really inspirational! Seeing your OH with a hangover must make you more determined...I bet that's one thing you don't miss!

17/20 AFDs for me, but I obviously can't make target this month.

I'm still going to set a target of 20 AFDs for September. If I didn't set a target I doubt it I'd even try to avoid the wine.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Thank you Chardonnay. The longer I go without a drink, the easier it gets, and the more frightened I am of going back to it. (That sounds a bit bonkers but it is where I am at the moment.)

If I were someone that could cut down, or stop after a glass or two, I wouldn't be going totally AF, and believe me, I have tried. For a number of years, as it happens. OH can drink in moderation, but it seems I can't, so this is the only way forward for me.

It was odd sitting with him last night watching the first three episodes of Season 5 of Breaking Bad and not having a glass or five with him, while pouring his because the cat was on his lap and they were so comfortable. We will be binge watching the rest of it within a week because we borrowed it from the library. It'll be interesting to see how it goes for me because I've been going to bed early to read so that I don't get tempted. It's been five weeks AF in total and I love Breaking Bad so here's hoping it doesn't become painful. Pizza tonight, as well, and I loved drinking red wine with it. Or rather, sloshing it back, if I'm strictly honest.

I don't miss the hangovers one bit, I can promise you. If I had a AF blog, I'd have to call it 'Permanently !!!!!!' because I think I must have been.

    ETA @ 2349hrs: 30/31 please, Shaggy.
