Thanks Maman for the supportive comments and GraemeCarter for the information and support.

I'm going to take the other bottle of supermarket AF red back. There's no point in trying to make it palatable, it just isn't to my taste. I have settled on several fruit juices I do like however, and have bought a couple of bottles of soda water to stretch them a bit further. Worth noting that the sugar in the huge fruit juice on Sunday night may have been enough to take me from super-lethargic to enough energy to cope with day to day stuff yesterday and this morning, but too much won't help with getting rid of my rather pillowy tummy.

In any event, what this has me realise is that while I stopped drinking without, apparently, any obvious acute withdrawal symptoms, the fact that I appear to have been side-swiped by Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms means I do actually have a serious problem with alcohol. I am not, as I first thought, just a heavy drinker; there is a level of addiction. Knowing that is unpalatable but helpful.

I'd rather knock it on the head now than wait until it gets worse. The truly frightening thing about it is that when I had a 20 day break from alcohol in January/February I had no side-effects at all. This has happened in just five months after 20 years of drinking. That's a very quick, very serious escalation.

What symptoms are you having Honey Bear? Can I ask how much you currently drink? Feel free to PM me if you don't want to share on here.

I am AF tonight so 1 more please Shaggy. Would be nice to be AF tomorrow so I am fresh for my hypno session on Thursday but same boring story of not being able to manage two days in a row :o

I'm done with the drinking, Fruball and haven't had a drink since 25 July, so 26 days as long as I don't have one tonight and I don't like counting chickens before they hatch, so 25 days AF. The symptoms were as posted - lack of energy and getting headaches, which are both PAWS. And I am absolutely not going to divulge how much I drank!

ETA: And just a teensy bit short-tempered. *whoops*

declaring tonight AF. I've been keeping myself very busy as a distraction technique tonight, so I've prepared stuff for lunches for the next 3 days and made a huge batch of chocolate chip cookies.

Now it's late enough to have a cup of teas and know that I'm past the 'bells' and wanting a drink.
    Trying to keep in budget.

    11/20 for tonight please.
  • Honey bear, glad your a little better, am sure you'll be feeling lots better in the coming days and weeks. And do keep posting how your feeling, for the support you'll get and also to help others who may be going through the same. It took me a good while of browsing before coming across this thread and building up courage to join because I could relate to what you and so many others were saying, am sure there plenty people out there reading this feeling in same boat!

satchmo - I can relate too! I would (will) assess "what are tomorrows plans" "how much can I get away drinking tonight". Much as hate to admit it, esp when sober, that's how my drink mind works. Funny how I never have to assess how many cups of tea can I get away with tonight :undecided

Fruball - good luck with hypnotherapy on thurs - am really interested to hear how it goes.

Mr Carter - love your contributions to this thread

All the best everyone x x

    5/14 thanks Shaggy

Sorry, I should have known that from your posts :o Problem is, I usually read this page after a few glasses of wine so very little information is retained :o

Well done on 25 days :T That is absolutely amazing. Congrats :)

    19/31 please Shaggy.

Ah, Fruball, the days of drinking, reading and posting. I remember them well. And all of the times I leapt out of bed first thing in the morning to delete those posts ....
