Same!!! I find it very easy to talk myself into why I should have a bottle of wine when I had previously decided not to drink that day. Not good. I can't afford it either, particularly as I smoke on my drinking days :o

I always had an excuse for drinking, but never a reason.

Quote "How many times have I wished that I hadn't drunk the night/day before" the answer would be hundreds.
When I ask myself "How many times have I wished that I did drink the night before" the answer would be never.

It seems so simple in the sober light of day, but need to get this into practice! Night all, wishing you well x x

That's how I know my alcoholism is centered in my mind.
The sober me would always ask myself "Why did I drink last night??", and come up with an excuse.
That same sober me would be the one that picked up the first drink....

I have an alcoholic mind, and it plays tricks with me. I cannot change my thinking just because I want to. I have had to change what I do, and that in turn will change my thinking.

Good actions lead to good thinking, not the other way around (in my case at least)

Hello Shaggy and friends. I'm not sure how to join your challenge but would like to! I drink too much both for my general health and definitely shouldn't be drinking on anti depressants but the alchohol and depression are strongly linked! My finances would also be improved without the money spent. This is a big step for me as I've never publicly said I want to stop drinking but I don't want to drink this much anymore. Look forward to hearing from you.
With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

    Hi HopefulJoy and welcome!

I'm pretty sure that acknowledging that a change is needed is the first step in making the necessary adjustments to our lives. Saying it out loud, or writing it and committing publicly to doing something differently is the second step, so you're well on your way. I'm very new here myself and still feeling my way but it's definitely working. Good luck!
    Better is good enough.

    Welcome hopefuljoy. Good decision!

All you need to do is either write how many days AF you hope to have before the end of August or say if you'd prefer not to have a target and see how you do one day at a time. The super-efficient Shaggy will add you to the list and update each time you post an AF day completed.

I really surprised myself yesterday. It was our wedding anniversary (cue bottle left chilling in fridge) and we went out for the day. Changed our minds about stopping for a meal on way home so decided on a fish supper (rare treat for us). And what goes best of all with a fish supper? A mug of tea!!:D

It did feel 'wrong' not having a drink on a special occasion but it's not the law is it!

    6 AFDs please Shaggy.
