Something has changed in me now. I am thinking more about my health and future and that of my children's. I think a lot about illness and cancer now and if I died through something preventable, then as a parent that is something I could never get over, dead or alive. I hope you get my drift. I don't want to cause any additional pain to my children. Being a single parent is hard enough on them.
Being a single parent means that you were the one who accepted responsibility and stuck with it. It upsets me terribly when people talk disparagingly about single parents. It's not something most people choose, and most people do it very well.
Where I do agree with you is the thing about deciding to do something positive and practical about our own health. I've just read a library book called 100 Simple Things You Can Do to Prevent Alzheimers and Age-Related Memory Loss and it's had a massive impact on me. I had no idea we could be so easily pro-active about something that worries me so much, simply because of OH and my ages (70 and 60). All the advice is simple, straightforward and echoes all things we know we should do (walk, don't store fat around your middle, socialise, take on new experiences, keep learning etc etc) but there are also other nuggets which only involve minor tweaks. I'm a lot less worried than I was that's for sure and immediately after I returned the book I popped into our local herbal chemist, which happily happens to be practically next door, and spent a tiny part of my saved alcohol budget on vitamins and Omega 3 that it recommends.
5/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -
Good to see you back Shaggy. I gained more weight at pre-Christmas nibbly parties than at Christmas itself. As of today I'm back at the upper limit of where I like to be. Ideally I'd lose another half stone.
I'd prefer not to have an annual target although I am interested in how I do. So I'll go target free and work out my running total. It'll give me an incentive to get in as many bonus days as I can.
No drinking planned for today.
4 AFDs please Shaggy.0 -
Afternoon :hello:
1 more AFD for yesterday.
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
