I am really quite disappointed, and possible daft - I spent quite a bit of time trying to help you on the basis of what seemed a genuine mistake.

To paraphrase - too make one mistake is forgiveable, two is unfortunate etc.

You have woven a web of "innocent" mistakes here.

    I'm out.

    Steve

I would'nt feel daft Steve...you gave genuine advice based on what you read...the advice given will one day most probably help a genuine numpty who will be more than grateful.
The only one ashamed should be the OP as he now looks like a fraud and a cheat.

So what? HMRC don't give a stuff about what you spend your income on, but they're always interested in what your income is.

They will probably also be interested in Mum's income - undeclared interest in her name?... payments for childcare?

Information flows two ways, and the reason HMRC provide other agencies with information to check claims is because HMRC gets information back....

OP your 30 undeclared income per month is more than that.

It will be £650 a month (what your mum claims her rent is), less capital. HMRC are not good with fraud claims, I hope you have the money for any fine and repayment of tax.

Because I was on my travels I was unable to invest it in my name. I know its not great evidence but I was travelling Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam etc and I was concerned about my money as a friend of mine had been cloned before while travelling. All the money is still in my mums name, 45k tied up for another 2 years approx, 7.5k in an ISA because I have my own already and 7.5K is just sitting in a high interest savings account. This is making me look greedy, I would have done this all in my name if I didnt travel or the money came to me sooner, I have gained nothing by having it in my mums name other than the ISA which is not life changing.
I really hate scammers so did they ever catch the people who scammed your friend?

It's bothering you for exactly the same reason it's bothering others - you put time, effort and thought into trying to help Keith out, when all along we were only being given the bare bones of the tale, initially, and then drip-fed some of the rest.

What you wanted Steve, was to help this guy, who sounded believable, like you have helped others. I often see a post where I haven't the knowledge to help, but feel so sorry for the poster that I write something along the lines of "I'm sorry I can't help, but I hope this gets sorted out for you".

Sometimes I get a "thank you", but mostly it's ignored. You've given so much help in the past, don't let this stop you in the future - you're better than that.

    xx

Thank you - kind of you to say - I often read but don't comment - I practise law (NHS not benefits) - dread to think what my hourly charge rate is lol

lawyers 'practice' law and doctors 'practice' medicine.
think id feel a whole lot happier if they didnt need to 'practice' but knew what they were doing! ;)

Not sure what your point is - however whether it is practice or practise, the point remains

Nannytone wasn't having a go at your spelling. :)

She was joking that doctors and lawyers (people who really need to know what they're doing) use the term 'practise' rather than 'do'. And we'd rather doctors didn't 'practise' medicine on us but did it competently. :)

Back to the OP: seems there are now far bigger issues than the undeclared £60k. No tax return or income tax on the OP's profit (whilst the tax payer pays for his mortgage), and no income declaration from his mother who earns £200 a month.

Good luck, OP, I suspect the 'nice' people who came to see you will report it straight back to HMRC.

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
  • I think this whole thread is a wind-up.

    Andy, quite possibly!
