  • I reckon Keith should ask his Uncle Andy to help him out on this one!

  • Oh dear.

Just browsed this thread. It appears that Keith has set up his finances purely to suit himself - compared to most he has a fairly complicated financial set up but apparently just assumed that he could 'net' all the various cash flows - amazingly naive or dimly manipulative - you decide. Perhaps everybody nowadays runs their finances along the lines of 'deal or no deal' - close your eyes, pick a number and if it goes wrong blame the banker/taxman but if it goes right take the credit. Perhaps it really was best when only the rich had finances and the rest of us just kept it simple (ie ignorance is not a good defence). Ho hum.

Started out all innocent and then one lie after another - people who have offered good advice must feel cheated

IMHO the OP knew exactly what he was doing and it has something to do with avoiding giving money to an ex partner

Mate you have lost the crowd - its a thumbs down all round

Am I wrong - I felt as though I had personally invested in this chap having seen what is often plainly crap on this board?

Not sure why it is bothering me.

I think we should let Keith come back and explain first before we all jump on him. It could easily be a series of mistakes and he needs to update us really further.

The part that really doesn't wash with me is the 'I put the £45k into my mum's name because I didn't have the time to do anything myself before I went on holiday the following day'....sounds that having his mum set up that investment would have required much more effort than just doing it for himself, even if just from abroad. Personally, for the sake of a £45k investment, I would have delayed my 12 months around the world trip.

I am really quite disappointed, and possible daft - I spent quite a bit of time trying to help you on the basis of what seemed a genuine mistake.

To paraphrase - too make one mistake is forgiveable, two is unfortunate etc.

You have woven a web of "innocent" mistakes here.

    I'm out.

    Steve

I have been keeping up to date with this thread and it strikes me that a lot of effort has gone into all of these innocent mistakes.

Hope it doesnt put you off helping others:(:(

It will have come from HMRC who will have alerted the DWP to a large amount of savings due to the taxes being paid on interest. It can often take several years to come to light so even though they don't currently know about the £45k, they will certainly be made aware of it in due course.

The interest is reported yearly to HMRC, by all Financial Institutions.

As others have said, this information is also shared with other relevant Government Departments such as DWP.

I have not declared the income I recieve because it only works out to earning about £30 a month after I've paid my mortgage.
So what? HMRC don't give a stuff about what you spend your income on, but they're always interested in what your income is.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

It's bothering you for exactly the same reason it's bothering others - you put time, effort and thought into trying to help Keith out, when all along we were only being given the bare bones of the tale, initially, and then drip-fed some of the rest.

What you wanted Steve, was to help this guy, who sounded believable, like you have helped others. I often see a post where I haven't the knowledge to help, but feel so sorry for the poster that I write something along the lines of "I'm sorry I can't help, but I hope this gets sorted out for you".

Sometimes I get a "thank you", but mostly it's ignored. You've given so much help in the past, don't let this stop you in the future - you're better than that.
