Making stock from bones is a waste of cooker energy. So I don't have a stock pot boiling for hours, ever.
I use bleach, water and fairy liquid mixed up in a spray bottle for cleaning.
I don't clean very much, only as required, slob lady!
I make soup and bulk cook the usual stuff then freeze in portions. Invaluable to me.
I freeze bread
Basics like mince, eggs cheese have to be good quality.
I will pick up reduced items, but ONLY if I really need them, and more importantly LIKE them.
I cut the brillo pads into quarters. Best tip ever.
I buy Aldi gold label tea. It's gorgeous.
Coffee has to be good quality.
Don't water down milk. Keep a tub of coffee mate on standby for emergencies.
Make my packed lunches for the week and freeze. Brilliant for me.
Don't knit or sew. But I can use wondaweb and see a button on.
As we know, we can pick and choose the things that give us satisfaction from a money saving POV, but there are some things that are not for me.
Love the board though, love it!0 -
I tried a mooncup. I threw it away. I used it properly but I still leaked.
I wouldn't use a wee cloth. Eww!
I do cook from scratch. Mostly.
But I have fussy children. Ds1 has always been fussy. Upon saying that. Dd has become fussy as she's reached her teen years. And ds2 is autistic so has food issues. To counteract this, I do meal plan. Separate meal plans, but I still don't spend a huge amount on food.
I drive more than I should. But again, ds2 has global development delay & can't walk too far.
Using this forum has helped me a lot though. I spend a lot less on food & don't waste anywhere near what I used too.
I've got a slow cooker. But it's huge, so I don't use it.0 -
I don't compromise on the coffee I like.
I wont use a floor mop and bucket for my floors. I have tried this and all I seem to do is swish the dirt back on the floor again. So I do use floor wipes. Same for the toilet, but not special wipes though.
I don't and wouldn't want to use a mooncup
I do cook from scratch and make home made soups, but I wont use the stalks.
Im on E7 and I do turn my storage heater off before fully charged in the middle of the night if I wake up but wont go cold and have if off completely
I do buy ys products and most of my shopping is based around what I can buy cheap.
I don't meal plan because of above.
I do use my slow cooker and microwave rather than my hob as im on E7 so I cook things over night with the SC.
I don't take any notice of sell by/use by dates. I do the look and sniff test.
I do reuse sandwich bags a couple of times.
I do drive everywhere rather than walk
So I guess im a mix and match Old stylee0 -

I make stock/soup from chicken bones using my slow cooker
I knit and can crochet after a fashion
I buy whoopsie stuff if I consider it a good buy and only if items I normally use
I cook three-quarters of our meals from scratch. We eat bought pizza from time to time and treat ourselves to a carry out most Saturdays
I use white cotton cloths for cleaning which are then soaked in bleach and boil washed
I do not have a bread maker. Only two of us and we don't eat copious amounts of bread
I do not compromise on coffee - always buy a decent brand
I do not compromise on baked beans - Heinz or Branston
I do not compromise on sauce - HP and Heinz tomato
I do not compromise on washing up liquid - Fairy
All items I do not compromise on are bought when on special offer.0 -

I don't compromise on coffee either
I wouldn't use a tea bag twice
Wee cloths - just no
I do use Eco friendly cleaning and laundry products even though they are more expensive
I will put the heating On If I am cold
I sometimes buy posh coffees and have lunch out
I do like my holidays, but they vary in type and cost - but there are several a year
I do cook from scratch and wouldn't buy a ready meal even if YS (except for pizza, I do buy those)
I don't use my tumble dryer, or extremely rarely in any case
I don't use home made gloopI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I knit, crochet and sew but I don't think it saves me any money. Yarn and fabric are expensive. It does, however, help me to keep occupied at home as I can't afford to go out much so that is a bonus plus I get lovely original items for myself and gifts.
I do make soup but mainly for work lunches but that is more about health, diet and taste than anything else.
We cook from scratch nearly every night and freeze extra portions but that was also because I hate the taste and texture of processed food but I suppose it must save money although I have never tried the alternative. We have never got takeaways or bought ready meals. We are 75% vegetarian (well I am all non-meat). I do bake regularly but not really bread as I dont eat it much - again, I dont like shop cakes.
I used to have an allotment but that actually cost me more than we ever got back in produce really as tools were always being stolen . Now I stick to growing herbs, strawberries and a few climbing things in my yard though it is a constant battle with slugs.
I used Terry nappies for my daughters because i didn't like the idea of all that plastic lurking in the world for years. I expect that did save money too. I also used to frequent jumbles and charity shops a lot when my girls were small.
I buy quite a few value products these days and am a bit of a supermarket !!!!! but I dont scrimp on things like parmesan cheese and half decent coffee although I only like instant anyway. I also like nice shampoo and conditioner for my hair and have not yet tried watering it down. Tried fancy face stuff once (Clinique) and couldn't tell the difference when I went back to Dove and Nivea.
I have never had a tumble dryer nor a dishwasher and have never missed these items.
I dont have Sky but do buy DVD sets from Ebay as TV can be so dire.
It is only when I talk to other folk (I suspect they dont read MSE) that I realise how differently some people live and what they spend money on. Overall I am a mix of a bit old-fashioned, sensible and miserly I suspect.
Oh, and I laugh in the face of sell by dates to my OH's horror."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

old style in my opinion is about being thrifty with the things you can/want to so that you can afford the things that you don't want to have to be thrifty with. we pick and choose. and we all use the t'interweb which isn't that OS!
I don't make bread or bake - essentially because I can't do it well beyond the odd chocolate brownie. I don't make yoghurt or jam or chutneys/pickles, although I may try the latter two if we get better fruit crops this year. I don't dehydrate food. unless i'm shopping with a voucher in aldi I get my monthly grocery shop delivered and do most other shopping online. I steam clean my floor, when I worked in a kitchen the mop was simply to pick up the dirty water after you'd scrubbed on your hands and knees to get the dirt into the water, mopping to clean the floor is moving most of the dirt around and I'm not scrubbing the floors. I don't buy basics chopped tomato or tea but would if I found a version that I liked (I've recently swapped coffee from dowe egberts to aldi fair trade which is very drinkable). I rarely buy ys goods because I've never really found much saving doing it around here. I drive more than I should, and I like my internet, tablet, computer.
I do sew, knit and crochet, I repurpose things, I mend stuff and most of furniture has had several owners before me, and is sturdy and beautiful. I cook from scratch when I can be bothered (which is most but by no means all of the time), I bulk buy when it's a better deal, I grow some veg, but only to show the kids where food comes from as it saves no money whatsoever on the scale I do it. I use a slow cooker, I love home-made soups and can't abide shop bought ones. I go on camping holidays because I love them, but the old bones are beginning to tire of this now. I use a mooncup, and it has helped enormously with decreasing pain, I used cloth nappies mostly, and I'd love to keep ducks.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
