Stick with PlusNet or switch to Primus?

Currently with PlusNet for phone and broadband. Have paid LR up front until 22nd Feb (£10.49/mth), and on unltd BB and anytime calls package for £9.99+£4.50 and caller display on top for 99p. But I've got a 12mth discount of £5 til 22nd Jan. Total cost per month currently is £10.48 + £10.49 LR which i've already paid) = £20.97

Renewal offer is £2.50 BB + £4.50 calls+99p = £7.99/mth plus LR. I can renew my up front year long LR for £11.49/mth as from 22nd Feb. Monthly cost of £19.48. Happy to do me a 12 month contract.

Total cost after 12 months = £229.27

But.....Primus have a deal running that expires tomorrow:

Line rental £10/month when paid up front
BB & Anytime calls £3.50 for first 6 mths
£5.50/mth for remaining 12 months of 18mth contract term.
£2.50/mth for caller display on top
£15 credit on first bill

If my LR with PlusNet coincided with my discount, then I'd be very tempted indeed to move. Only downside being 12 months in with Primus, I'd need to do another 12mth LR to keep the lower cost....which would tie me in for 6mths after my contract expires.

Anybody with any experience of Primus?

Any opinions on what I should do?

Even MSE doesnt recommend them "Warning! While the cheapest, we've had a disproportionate number of reports about Primus customer service and serious billing issues."

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I'm better off sticking as I am then.....or are there other, better deals to be had?

If I'm honest I'm a bit disappointed by PlusNet's approach when I phoned up to say I could get a better deal and was thinking of leaving. They were hardly interested in tempting me to stay - I didn't feel valued at all especially compared to the way Vodafone treat their existing customers with mobiles.
  • A wise move not using them EG A recent post about them.

How do you talk to PlusNet about retentions?

    Thanks again.

Give them a call. To be honest I don't find them very helpful at all.

I found they won't negotiate at all, you either take or leave their standard offer to all customers (same as on the website), and if you want to leave they issue a MAC code within 48hrs with no further communication.

Probably because they are already a cheap yet cheerful provider. The only cheaper I know is TalkTalk but they are not really comparable in terms of service.

I found them willing to negotiate.
Today I signed up for line rental paid up front.
    12 month £2.50 contract not the 18month(last 6 month at 9.99)
Anytime phone calls and caller display etc.
So I haggled away the expensive extra 6 month (9.99 bit)
