The thing about broadband is it isn't a simple product where you can say the cheapest provider is always the best because as well as the price the quality of the product varies both in levels of congestion you are likely to see and quality of support if things should go wrong.

You can't even pick the most expensive of the more common providers and assume that will be best either. Nor can you pick the biggest. Nor the one with the best TV ads. You need to do some research to see if there are recurring complaints. Plusnet have some of those right now too - mostly about call wait times rather than actual performance of the product.

I've noticed the call wait times have increased but luckily the only time I've needed to ring them is once a year to pay the line rental and negotiate the price.

I found them willing to negotiate.
Today I signed up for line rental paid up front.
    12 month £2.50 contract not the 18month(last 6 month at 9.99)
Anytime phone calls and caller display etc.
So I haggled away the expensive extra 6 month (9.99 bit)

So you're paying £2.50/month for everything except line rental?

    No,£2.50 is BB
    £4.50 anytime calls.
    99p caller display.
    So 7.99 all in
just negotiated away the expensive bit of the last 6months at
    9.99 BB
    4.50 anytime
    99p CD
    £15.48

Since my last contract expired it seems all new ones are a minimum of 18mths

That was the standard offer I was given by PlusNet. Come to the conclusion it was the best I could get.
  • noy heard of primus, but plusnet WOEFUL customer service, if you can even get through to them!

I have had no probs with Tesco- was initially around £20/month for LR and unltd BB, calls extra. Retained me at £16, on same deal.

One issue re duff router, got replaced in a couple of days.
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)

You can also get £35 cashback from quidco for taking tesco broadband (which is free for 12months then £6)! with LR which is £15.40

As mentioned by ASK66 on another thread

Have just phoned Plusnet to ask what broadband deals would be available to me as a renewing customer (prices advertised on website are often only for new customers) and was offered unlimited broadband at £2.50/month on a 12 month contract. Make sure you ask to be put through to the Customer Options Team who seem to be able to offer the best deals.

Able to renew my contract for 12 months with the nationally advertised £2.50 offer pm including free weekend and evening calls.
