When I tried to load it, a big banner covered it saying that I couldn't proceed as WinZip had expired! I have now done as suggested and removed WinZip, and will have another go with CPU-Z tomorrow night.
I'll keep you updated thanks.O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.

Try this:

Ex-home Dell Optiplex with a 2.4ghz Core II Duo and 4gb memory, £64.99. It has a fresh Vista installation, which is unfortunate but you could always replace it with Linux Mint. It comes with a grotty monitor - throw it away - and no keyboard.
The extra memory makes it attractive; most used desktops seem to be ex-corporate Dells with 512mb or 1gb. You might want to consider adding a cheap discrete graphics card if you don't already have one.
Yes, in theory you could optimise your existing PC and make it faster. Good luck with that.0 -
running any better?

the bizarre mse posting bug is truncating the post every time I edit it.
google update, garmin, justcloud, nokia, printer o4's, malwarebytes, corel standby.exe see earlier post (19), quicktime difficult to get rid of
disable adobe update service using services.msc
apple bonjour could probably go
netgear you may or may not need, depends whether you are using that wireless adapter software to manage wireless
any o4's you disable, and might need sometime (eg printer management software), you can create an icon and run manually when required, rather than have them running automatically at boot, and using resources. if you do notice any issues as a result of disabling an o4 startup, simply re-enable it using msconfig and reboot.!!

Perhaps you chose 1.67.1 zip, english instead of 1.67.1 setup, english.
What happened with the other program?0 -

Latest hijack log. Garmin I prefer to leave, Adobe I think is already off, Netgear I need for wireless.
Funny issue with speed though...when I do the msconfig bit, fine, I untick the required bits and apply. Reboot etc, and I get a pop up saying that the system is on 'Selective'. Seems right. If I then leave it there, then when I log in, it literally takes 2 minutes for icons to appear on screen.
If however I say to go back to the normal mode, it then replaces all the ticks, and seems to go faster?
Nifty
At last, http://www.datafilehost.com/d/99e05639
the system details! Still having issues though with OEM. It loaded up this time, but needs an Administrator password, which I don't have?
May have to leave that side of things.O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.

I gave one of those away on freegle a few weeks back, and also a GX620 SFF model (which is the same but with 4x memory slots instead of two).andydiysaver wrote: »if you want bargain basement cheap get this

under 100 all in, basic desktop - with XP os
I'm currently typing this on a Dell 755 SFF, which looks the same, but is the newer model and takes a Core2Duo or Quad CPU and 16 GB memory (supported memory max is 8, but they do take 16).
They can be had for that sort of money too, eg. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DELL-OPTIPLEX-755-SFF-/221349107100?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopPCs&hash=item33896f559c or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-OptiPlex-755-SFF-Core2Duo-E7200-2-53GHz-80GB-DVD-CRW-1GB-RAM-Windows-7-/291050182067?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopPCs&hash=item43c3f155b3.
There are 4 models in the range: tower, desktop, SFF (small form-factor) desktop, USFF (ultra small) desktop. People do get them mixed up (eg. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-OptiPlex-755-SFF-Desktop-Customised-/151143989315?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopPCs&hash=item2330e24043 is not an SFF model!).0 -

If there is no password, then confirm without filling that part in.0 -
I got one of those for nothing on freegle; it had an older CPU so I've upgraded that to a Core2Duo, and I'm going to put in a 1 or 2 TB disk and use it as a music server.AshleyPomeroy wrote: »Try this:

As a desktop PC, it's not quite as good as the 755 SFF I mentioned above, as its CPU bus (FSB) is slower and so its CPU choices are more limited (the jury's out as to whether a quad-core is viable because of cooling).0 -
Thanks guys, but I have come to the conclusion I would be best cleaning mine up.....with the help of Closed and Nifty!!!O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.
