Our desktop is now too old....around 7/8 years, and running very slow. It may be time for a new one, but I am now lost on specs.
I want just the tower, the screen is ok. Don't need a DVD writer, or high games specs. Will need an operating system, presumably windows. I guess we could use open office rather than pay for excel/word?
Finally, I live near to Novatech if any of theirs fit the bill?

they're dirt cheap ready made these days, this is why I have to do a real job and can't build them anymore for profit ....0 -

Indeed some detail of your current PC would be helpful.
Though if you are set on buying one you could do worse than this Medion E2025 E for £174.99
Don't buy old stuff with XP on it.0 -
Avoid this like the plague.andydiysaver wrote: »if you want bargain basement cheap get this

Why replace a 7/8 year old desktop with one that is 7 years old?

I seem to remember that Windows was originally loaded by a mate....no questions! What about I buy a copy of XP from ebay....now only £25 now that it is out of date?
I am not good on technical things, but having looked at your excellent post, I am getting the impression that without a key, or a disc, I stand no chance.O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.

if the problem is slow, post a hijackthis log, commit charge current and peak, and physical ram total.
Along with brand and model, unless it's a "local shop" type.!!

in the seven or eight years since your pc was new, the size of the software packages (eg antivirus) have doubled if not trebled. If you have 512 Mbyte of RAM, it'll be next christmas by the time the thing starts.
....no matter how many times you reinstall..
There is a time when you just have to stop flogging dead horses.
