A dead horse you still appear to flog http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=64226385&postcount=9

a lot of perfectly usable machines are being thrown away due to misinformation like this.

Even if that was true, and the case, ram is cheap. xp, service packed, with avast uses under 150MB, and any machine bought in the last 15 years is capable of booting in 35 seconds

in the seven or eight years since your pc was new, the size of the software packages (eg antivirus) have doubled if not trebled. If you have 512 Mbyte of RAM, it'll be next christmas by the time the thing starts.
....no matter how many times you reinstall..

There is a time when you just have to stop flogging dead horses.
    More information needed.

:rotfl: 512MB here, boots to a working desktop in 40 seconds.

Run CPU-Z to identify the Hardware.
Choose 1.67.1 setup, english; Install and Run.

After running, click on the About Tab and choose 'Save Report(.HTML) and save the file produced to your Desktop(or wherever you choose)

Once complete, upload the file to DataFilehost and paste the link produced here or via PM.
  • OK, back from work, and getting there slowly!!!

Nifty, thanks, have tried what u suggested in PM, and cannot seem to get the program to work? Not to worry, we have sped PC up a considerable amount so far following the Closed blog.

Have got the link here yo my Hijack thingy.

    http://freetexthost.com/46fyvs53us

    Not having much joy.....

Just tried the CPU-Z, and I have 'run out' of Winzip, so it wont let me open the results!!!!

Now, in looking round, I have just seen under My Computer, System information, that there is an XP code...

    55274-641-1687587-23337

Does that mean we could be in further business?

As you can see, I am totally not a technical person, and big up to those of you that are. So, if there is more to be achieved, can I have an easy, step by step please!!!!!

    So grateful.

uninstall nokia connectivity driver, it usually adds a driver device in device manager, delete this from device manager

    uninstall old printer drivers/software

do you need garmin installed, if not, uninstall

delete the google update task from c:\windows\tasks

if you're using firefox, disable any superfluous plugins, if you're not using firefox, uninstall it

if you've updated, scanned and fixed anything found with malwarebytes, you can uninstall it

then reboot, and check commit charge, and speed, and post a fresh hijackthis log

uninstalling winzip trial should re-enable xp's built-in zip file handling, or you could use 7zip instead.

CPU-Z doesn't need WinZip in any shape or form. Why would you need to open the results anyway? It didn't form part of the instruction..
