    Afternoon :)

Dry here but very dull and chilly after hard frost.
Water has receded slightly off local fields, saw river avon on way to Melksham last night and it must be easily 4ft over its normal level, fields were just a complete lake

Didn't do half the things :o I planned yesterday so no excuses and being a lazy so and so today. Got a mountain of ironing, loads of washing and I do want to make cheese straws still for kids lunches.

Roast chicken (as usual) for dinner today.

Hugs and spoons all round xx

Hester and anyone else affected or under threat for flooding - hope it passes you by, stay safe xx

Molly hugs for you, hope this year is a better one for you xx

    Hilly hope you're OK xx

Glitterkitty happy birthday for tomorrow x

Moorhen what terrible news :( positive healing vibes for the poor lad xx

....Since I am going to be a grandma in May I have the urge to knit a simple cardigan or two. Last time I knitted regularly there were wool shops in every neighbourhood........so how best to find a simple pattern? 4ply or doubleknit? john L had wool at £3.30 a small ball yesterday eek!

I often see baby wool in B&M, or have a look on Ebay, or at the Black Sheep website: here

Does anybody else's daughter leave their room in an absolute tip when they return to university? I asked and asked her to tidy it up but she didn't and I wanted to send her off happy not have a row. Another job to sort :(

Molly, if you can possibly bear it, shut the door & leave it until she comes home, then you can say to her "Oh I haven't been in there because I thought you had tidied as I'd asked". It's very difficult I know, but it might make her realise she shouldn't rely on you to sort out her mess especially when her health is generally a lot better than yours.

    Julie, good luck for tomorrow.

Molly, it was my DS who was the messy one, but now he's moved out and taken everything with him. DD has also moved out but her room still looks as if she lives here, she has left so much behind.

Talking about DS he's now finished paying off his student loan, I'm very proud because he's only 27, DD is still paying hers off but working in media her salary is a lot lower than ds' so it's taking her longer.

Off now to look at a car, we were hoping our old Picasso would last till May but it looks as if it's on its way out. It certainly doesn't owe us anything, it's done 150,000 miles in the last 9 years. We don't agree on what to replace it with though, DH wants a bigger car than me though.

Hi chums ,DD gone off home full off coffee, eggs and advice :):) though who knows if she'll take it or not.Her Oh is a lovely chap but a bit of a spendthrift. They are pretty well off moneywise, but DD is a bit like me and likes not to over-extend herself too much. Her OH loves to shop and yesterday they went out and were looking at new gas fires and then as she wasn't keen on any off them he wanted to go to Staples and look at new chair and computer desk. She couldn't see the need for a new desk and told him so.So life is a bit frosty in her house at the moment .Her OH will be fine once he's gone back to work tomorrow,He gets a bee in his bonnet now and again and then calms down after a bit of sensible thinking. He recently had a rather large promotion and a good increase in salary so want to blow it a bit.DD is thinking more that they should get the cash saved first before spending anymore . I'm afraid I agreee with her as I too tend to save for stuff first.Son-in-law is a lovely chap and normally fairly good with cash but when he is off of work he loves to shop.DD has to steer him away from buying stuff at times :):)
My late OH was a bit like that and would spend his last penny to 'treat ' me or the children bless him.I always had to hang on to the reins when it came to spending :):)I told her to suggest that they save a bit towards looking for a fire in the hlaf term when they next have time off then they can buy it with cash saved.A bit of a compromise but by then he may have lost the urge to spend once he sees the benefit .
I am now sorting out my study /computer room and decluttering the piles of papers that seem to have accumulated over the past year.
Skies are getting greyer so I think more rain is on tthe way.Off to youngest for dinner late afternoon so no cooking for me to do today I had a sald for lunch which was nice and a change from Christmassy food.
Have a good day all whatever you are doing .Routine is back tomorrow :):):)

    Afternoon guys.

I have a fair bit to do today but meh, the weather outside is horrible and I just want to sit and watch TV/browse the net. Not very productive though!

    I need to -
    1) Sort out underneath our bed. I'm not sure what's under there...
    2) Find some more things to send to the charity shop
    3) Strip the bed, hoover the bedroom and do a full sweep and hoover of the flat. I found some big shards of glass yesterday on the floor so I need to have a proper go over I think.
    4) Not OS but need to write a couple of blog posts and revive my somewhat dead blogs :o

I was meant to be making a batch of carrot and coriander soup today but after spending an hour (or so it felt!) yesterday peeling parsnips for the parsnip soup I made I just can't summon the will!

Time to stick the kettle on and crack on I think :)

Dropping in before I doze off, to send best wishes to Julie67.

It's wet, grey and windy here so we're spending a sleepy day x

Won't say if it was a DS or DD, but once, I just closed the door and left it :o
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

Oh Hester - really hope you keep safe and the floods don't affect you. My Hubby been on flood warning at work too - keep warm.

Im up and sat cuddling Molly and Pops at my feet watching the twinkling lights of my christmas Tree for the last time this year. I love my tree and hate to take it down but down it must come later today.

It makes me wonder what 2014 has in store for me and my family, particularly my parents and my youngest son, and how I will be feeling when I put it up again at the year's end. To say I am frightened is an understatement but I will not give in to fear and keep my candle burning in the darkness.

Goodness that was profound. Don't think I will go back to bed as up at 5.30 am as 3 kids to work. Eldest son has returned home now and out of cow's clutches - just the aftermath of the tenancy to sort. He is sort of behaving! DD back to uni tomorrow - I will miss her but she has good friends there and a lovely chap looking out for her :T

OS - well really have to draw my horns in now with health permitting. Going to start using up the contents of fridge and freezer and overhaul our menu plan and try and eat healthier. Having said that i have made one of my famous trifles for DD to take back with her and one for us.

Thinking of all of you with challenges to face especially Hilly.
What was that ladies name who used to post regularly whose husband had cancer and then she was also diagnosed, she did a lot for the church and had lost one son and the other was poorly? Thoughts to her also x

I think that it is Bethebee

LW Glad that you are enjoying your furry visitor.
Thanks.:o He's gone home now, and I have no more bookings at present. Apparently January is completely dead - only two bookings in total all month, and both have been assigned to other hosts.:( Still, hopefully it'll pick up when the skiing season starts - the franchisee said he has some bookings for later in the year too (people wanting to get their holidays all organised, including dog accommodation) so he'll call me in the week with a view to booking some to stay with us.:o
    LW are you ok
Hiya:hello: Just the usual creaky joints and a good dose of brainfog, but other wise plodding on; thanks for asking.:o

Sweetie, I don't know if you've ever read "Dune" by Frank Herbert - not everyone's cup of tea, but there's a very good "Litany Against Fear" in that:

    "I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing......
    Only I will remain."

I've found this helpful on many occasions. Offered to you in friendship.:o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • I have brought myself upstairs with my iPad.
    Family doing my head in.
They are back at school/work tomorrow thank goodness.
    Normality can return.

Saw some lovely dogs outside asda today. One of them made me laugh as he had a face that said "my owner has abandoned me".

Does anyone give themselves pocket money? I am tightening the purse strings & am thinking of giving myself £10 per week. That will be plenty for what I do (or don't do) and it means if I want I can have a guilt free Costa etc...

Am also going to have a separate purse for the supermarket.

3rd purse will be for other incidentals like when the school demands money.

HH, hope you've not flooded x
