OS Daily Thread Sunday 5th January

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all
We are back on flood warning here & I was woken by the Floodline phonecall, so I got up & made a cuppa, it's not raining at present & the flood water isn't due to rise until 7am, I shall take my knitting wool, laptop & some candles upstairs later just in case, though it doesn't usually reach my street. I shall go for a walk when it's light to see how close it is. We are forecast heavy rain later today & then dry weather from 9am Monday. The residents who are closer to the river are usually well prepared & our flood wardens will be out & about in their canoes I expect.
I'm heading back to bed to try & get another couple of hours sleep.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.

Oh Hester - really hope you keep safe and the floods don't affect you. My Hubby been on flood warning at work too - keep warm.

Im up and sat cuddling Molly and Pops at my feet watching the twinkling lights of my christmas Tree for the last time this year. I love my tree and hate to take it down but down it must come later today.

It makes me wonder what 2014 has in store for me and my family, particularly my parents and my youngest son, and how I will be feeling when I put it up again at the year's end. To say I am frightened is an understatement but I will not give in to fear and keep my candle burning in the darkness.

Goodness that was profound. Don't think I will go back to bed as up at 5.30 am as 3 kids to work. Eldest son has returned home now and out of cow's clutches - just the aftermath of the tenancy to sort. He is sort of behaving! DD back to uni tomorrow - I will miss her but she has good friends there and a lovely chap looking out for her :T

OS - well really have to draw my horns in now with health permitting. Going to start using up the contents of fridge and freezer and overhaul our menu plan and try and eat healthier. Having said that i have made one of my famous trifles for DD to take back with her and one for us.

Thinking of all of you with challenges to face especially Hilly.
What was that ladies name who used to post regularly whose husband had cancer and then she was also diagnosed, she did a lot for the church and had lost one son and the other was poorly? Thoughts to her also x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Morning all

Thanks for all of your well wishes yesterday very much appreciated. It was very emotional but when we went back to my sisters that was mixed with lots of happy memories.
Annoyed with another of my sisters as she did nothing to help yesterday (not even offered) I made trays of sandwiches, did salad bought flowers etc. she didn't even call my sister who was hosting and ask if there was anything she could take to help!!! Well as my grandma would say... In that case I have nothing to thank her for.....lol
Didn't sleep well again but hoping that will return to normal soon.

Hester hope the flooding doesn't come as far as you.

Good wishes to everyone else (I am rubbish with names!) especially those going to hospital soon or feeling down.

Lyn x

• Hi everyone

I am a long time lurker and feel like I know you all! I must say that you really all do inspire me when I feel like doing nothing but hiding out in my bed!

Yesterday we had the news that our house is to be sold and we need to look for somewhere else to rent. This will be some weeks off and was kind of expected so not a massive surprise. The timing of straight after Christmas isn't great but at least we know.

So, operation "save as much as we can" starts today along with operation "clear out as much as we can to save moving rubbish to the new home".

I am a list person as I know many of you are - it helps me to feel in control.

Here is my list for today:-

Ironing (got quite a lot of that :()

Take dog for a walk - this will be interesting after all the rain and now the very heavy frost but it makes me feel better as well as him!

Take a look at finances and do a budget from now till payday (15th)

Tidy paperwork - it's fairly tidy so won't take long but I want to keep on top of everything

See what I can throw out - I live with my dad and brother so will also ecourage them to do the same (that will be a challenge!)

Sort out birthday cards for the month of january - I have bought them, just need to write them and work out when to post them.

Do a list of what is in the freezer (it' full!) so that we can start using stuff up ready to move - we have done a meal plan for the week but I will also do a list of meals that can be made from the contents of the freezer.

I think that's about it for now. I don't suppose I will be able to post daily (although I do try to at least read the post daily) but I will try and be a regular.

Thank you all for your inspiration and I hope everyone is safe and well especially in the flood areas.

xxx

Yvieblue You have to watch out for american patterns, the stitches have different names to the UK – what we call double crochet, they call single crochet, etc. I have THIS it's all UK stitches. They all do the 'proper' way differently :D Just find the way that suits you.

I've sorted the kitchen cupboards, they're now all neat and tidy :D Also did the hall cupboard, I rearranged as I tidied. I didn't realise quite how many candles were in there, most them are scented, the whole cupboard smells fab :D

Morning everyone

Julie - Good luck for tomorrow x

HH - hope you've managed to stay safe x

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still dark, not raining at the moment but still damp underfoot after yesterday's awful weather - rained and was blustery nearly all day. Although I know here we didn't get the worst of the weather.

DH and I are up and enjoying a peaceful cuppa. Boys still in their pits fast asleep.

Didn't really do much at all yesterday - was a lazy mare to be honest! Had nail appt at 9am - then paid repair guy for little repair job he did at caravan, then stopped off at MrT to get some more ink for printer as it had run out and wouldn't print anything. Whilst I was there I picked up some pizza, fresh pasta and sauce for last night's dinner - very nice it was too. I didn't do any baking/cooking as had a bit of CBA mood on - so don't have anything in the tins - but it's my birthday this week so will buy a chocolate birthday cake - I will only have 1 slice on my birthday so the rest will do as desserts for the menfolk.

Lunch today is roast pork, I will do the full trimmings with it. When I was doing the shopping the large pork loin joints were on offer - so I bought 1 and cut it into 2 smaller joints - 1 went straight in the freezer for another day. We need to visit my parents and the outlaws this morning, DH has a another meeting on Saturday and we need someone to over see the children whilst we're not around - hoping the outlaws will help us out.

Tomorrow is going to be hard - I finished work for the Xmas break on 23rd December and return tomorrow morning - somehow think it's going to be a tough day! We were open the 2nd and 3rd January but they are not days I work. I wouldn't have thought it was that busy as the weather was not nice both days and the children are still off - some local schools go back tomorrow and some Tuesday - so fully expecting it to be manic this week. I've only got this week and then have another week off to use up my leave, so hopefully it will have settled down by the time I go back! I hoping that in the week I'm off to have a declutter of the house. Will try to use the time as usefully as possible, will print off the flylady list for that week to use as a guide.

Have a peaceful Sunday everyone x

Keep safe and well x

Good Morning All

Hester - hope the floods dont reach you.

Lazy Sunday here :j not raining at the moment and not too cold either.

Todays plans are - walk the dog, do ironing and tidy my office desk - nothing too hard.

Have Asda delivery between 11-1 which will probably mean 12.50. Have a leg of lamb in there meant for dinner today but normally do lamb in the slow cooker so may do it tomorrow instead. Think in its place will have spag bol for dinner.

Nothing exciting happening today - have a great day all.x
• morning all,
hope you are all keeping safe and the floods don't affect you...

I'm bouncing off the walls this morning - off to London today! Its my 30th birthday tomorrow and we are off to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour! I am so excited, you wouldn't think i'm 30!!

After this weekend, my finances are being tightened as much as possible. Hopefully I can save as much money as I can while still making CC repayments that are well over the minimum payment. I'll do a new spreadsheet next week.

Hope everyone has a good day!!

Good morning

Just been to let the chickens out and its freezing, we've had a frost which makes a change from rain I suppose, although just watching the weather and its looking like its going to be raining again this afternoon.

Nothing happening here today, I'm planning on spending the day pottering around the house enjoying the last day before the school runs start and things get back to normality, I do need to make some savoury and sweet snacks for ds to take in his lunch box.

Dinner today is toad in the hole with veggies and I might do a pudding for after.

Hester - I hope the floods don't reach you.... Stay safe.

Glitterkitty - Happy birthday, hope you have a lovely day

Hope you all have a lovely day x

Morning.
jacksmummy, tru thank you for the links and for pointing me in the right direction on YT - I'm the only one up at the moment so I've got time to have a little look at some of them.
I think tomorrow may find me in the craft shop but I'll have to keep it cheap for now - just a hook and some yarn to start me off!
Hester keeping fingers crossed that the flood doesn't reach you - it must be so unsettling to be on alert.
Molly Hope the year ahead is kind to you.

Nothing much to report here - a bit more ironing to do today, OH will take down the outside lights, boys will probably have an extra long lie in as they're back at school tomorrow.
Another one having roast Pork today here - although my joint looked rather small when it was delivered yesterday. If the worst comes to worst though and there's not much of it when cooked, I'm happy to split it between the three guys and stick with roasties and veg.
Have a Toffee Pavlova in Freezer which will do for dessert for them - I will try my best not to have any!
Have a good, warm and safe day everyone x
