    I would say that in every city in the UK, even London, if you negotiate, and go with private landlords or friend of a friend types who have a flat to rent you can get a big discount to the drivel that is posted on here about rent levels. My rent now is only 50 p.m more than a similar sized flat I had in the late 90`s. My biggest concern now is that landlords might panic a bit about the tax changes and start getting out of the game, I would be in a position of having to consider buying in the tail end of the biggest bubble in history, not a nice thought! Realistically there is always someone with a flat they bought long ago willing to let it out cheap just to have it occupied, that is my experience in Glasgow/Edinburgh anyway.

    You will be unaffected by the changes. As if the places you live in have landlords that know about the tax changes let alone pay any tax on the rent you pay cash in hand. :rotfl:

    I doubt Fergus will find it easy to just jack up the rent £300 a month across his portfolio. I doubt he's even doing it.

    If it was that easy, he'd have done it already.

    It's all bluster to "prove" that the government are doing the "wrong thing".

    I realise you are making a point about what others have stated, but in doing so you risk looking like you have lost all reasoning.

    Sticking with the film reference, Richard Gere has just done what looks like a good film about a homeless guy. Jenna Malone is in it, and she has become a very good actress it looks like, and Gere has some interesting points to make about homelessness - obviously from a financial standpoint he couldn`t be there, but he says that "mentally, emotionally and spiritually" he could slip into that place. The interview was with Charlie Rose and I`m sure that with the magic of the internet people can track it down if they want. (Cue loads of drivel about Crashy and Count playing the lead roles etc.) :money:

    I can only speak for renting in London. Just looked up properties in the part of town I used to rent in, with the same lettings agent. 1 bed flats now 18% more than I was paying two years ago.
    They are an EYESORES!!!!

    Still begs the question that if this investment genius can do this, why wait until now, he could have been much further out of the debt hole if he had done this years ago....when people actually had money (well credit) to spend?

    Maybe market conditions wouldn't allow it years ago but now they do?

    Did you phone the private landlord, or was it a friend of a friend or other connection quoting the price?

    Sorry, I see you said lettings agent. That is the problem right there IMO.

    Assuming you mean the migrant situation, so why in that case would he sell out of the gold mine now when it is just about to strike big?

    Most people`s rent has gone nowhere in years.

    Basically, you're coping to being a massive liar.
