Is this as lunch, or an evening meal?0 -

I assume its to cut costs on making a whole big meal....and something on toast is a huge meal in some parts of the world. It definitely wouldnt do any harm, many "older" generation people used to have bread and dripping etc as a main meal.
We have an easy/cheap meal each week which consists of either leftovers or egg and chips:D

Tinned spaghetti on top of good thick crunchy toast, topped with grated cheese and grilled until the cheese goes bubbly ... yum
I also make a hm version of the posh tuna melt toasties that cost a fortune in coffee shops - tuna mayo, topped with some cheese and a few sliced black olives. Microwave or grill for a few seconds, just until the cheese goes gooey. This makes a lovely filling for jacket spuds too.0 -

... still hubby reckons im odd anyway... i cant stand anything sloppy on toast, biscuits dunked in tea eughhhh.... bread being dunked in soup..... oh and if i have a cooked brekkie i have to build barriers..beans have to be at one end of my plate (using sausgaes to stop them escaping) and my egg has to go on a slice of toast at the other side of my plate -and if the yolk escapes onto my plate i cant eat my brekkie...bet you didnt know eating brekkie could be such a mine field:rotfl:
And I thought my sister was the only fussy one when it came to beans. Now I serve hers on a little plate on the side. Saves alot of stress all round :rotfl:Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Try Mexican Toast - heat some sweetcorn, drain then add grated chedder and let it melt with the heat of the sweetcorn, with lots of worcestershire sauce.
In the Middle Ages, people used slices of bread (called trenchers) instead of plates which is apparently where the British love of things on toast comes from. I sometimes put a slice of toast under chilli or a casserole if the starch component of the meal is a bit light.

It will take me a while to 'digest' all these suggestions!!:D I think it is also time to introduce the children to some new foods (wish me luck!)Originally posted by MORPH3US Can I ask what the thinking is behind having something on toast once a week?!?!

"THE BOOK" makes the suggestion for having something 'on toast' once a week as an "Old-Style way to save money with little or no effort at all"
Usually I do this as an evening meal on a day when the children have had a school dinner.0
