Thank you. :) I shall change my signature now and add on the £25 spend.

Quite right too, I often pick up bits for my DD and she pays me back so it does not come out of my budget.

As I run pay day to pay day for my challenge I have finished my first month (get paid 15th of each month)!! I have not done AWFUL but I have still over spent by £37.46  however this is better than before I was doing the grocery challenge and we have wasted much less food than before. Just going to do a run through my receipts and spend book for this month and see where I can pull back abit more to keep to £200 next month and also if there are any other areas I can pull back spending on, although I know 100% I have not wasted money the same as I have previously which has left me with extra money to put in my ISA :j just need it have a look to see how much I am changing across!!!

We'll although over the budget for the month still quite pleased and hope to learn a little and keep at £200 next month!!!

Sorry bit of a ramble there :rotfl:

Shopping tonight in Mozzies and Lids takes me to almost £150 out of £190.
I got tempted to the tune of £6.99 by some inexpensive gammon at £3.49.kg - still at 2kg should slice into lots and lots of freezable portions for the next few weeks - I don't feel I've wasted my money even though it was an unplanned purchase. I will need to be disciplined in next week's shop to come in on target.

  • I feel slightly guilty for buying £1 milk... Surely the farmer is only getting pennies, not enough to feed a cow on and make a profit to feed himself! My parents are big fairtrade fans so it's something I think about a lot - I know fairtrade mostly focuses on Africa but we should be paying a fair price to anyone who grows/produces food. I know I don't have much to spend on food, but the less I spend the less farmers etc have... What does everyone else think?

No grocery spends here today, just did my meal plan for next week and realised I only need to pick up a bit of veg and some lunch stuff, fingers crossed I'll make it in slightly under budget!

Well I didn't make my 14 days no spends , only 13 as I have a friend coming tomorrow. Her Son died last week so a heavy emotional day for both of us.

Anyway I wanted to look at the 3 for £10 chicken in Asda, online they say 1.35 kg, but I know from experience that you can get bigger ones i f you search through, so I managed to find 3 at 1.696 so a whole extra kg of chicken. I also looked at the extra tasty, Mexican and lime.
1.600 kg for £5, these are the same chicken, Butchers selection. but
1.67 more for a roasting bag, 10 for 99p and a few herbs, a lime or a few spices and a smaller chicken.

The supermarkets signed up to a minimum price per pint/litre from the farmers in the last couple of years, and I've not heard anything about them going back on that. Milk always used to be a loss-leader (ie. the supermarkets lost money on it, knowing that once you went in for that they had a chance of tempting you to buy things they made a big profit on), so I'm assuming it's a move back to that.
