  • Didn't achieve planned NSD day. Bought Ham shank £1.85, yogurt £1, mugshots x 3 £1, dried apricots and green peas £ £0.85 total £4.70 This will provide ham risotto, ham and pea soup, and yogurt starter for the week. I killed the last lot of yogurt by leaving it on a lot hob! Am experimenting with the separated residue by straining in jelly bag to see if it will make a form of paneer. Will keep you posted!

At this time of year take a look in the pickle sections in the supermarkets, they often reduce items that have not sold that they bought in for Christmas. My Sburys had!!!! The English Provender Co morrocan spiced chutney reduced to 20p reduced from £1.90 per jar. I have put had because guest what with a expiry date of November 2015...........Yes I bought all 22 jar's that was on the shelf, DD has had some. They are the ones with the Downton Abbey Competion tag arount the neck which has a closing date of 24th January 2014, way they didn't just take the elastic tags off beats me!
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

    NSD here again.
My frugal February is going so well.
I am doing BPITH - FF + roast potatoes/parsnips, cabbage & carrots + gravy for dinner tomorrow- got all that in stock. Breakfast and lunch covered too so should be another NSD.
I am thinking of making a veggie pie on Monday - I have lots of veggies to use up + puff pastry in fridge.
We had a stirfry with veggies + LO gammon for dinner. I added some hot chilli sauce and some jerk seasoning - result - very yummy. In stirfry - garlic, onions, celery, red pepper, carrots, parsnip, tomato and mushrooms.
    Quick, tasty, healthy and economical.

Don't go to the shops to browse - this can only lead to pain and hardship!!!
It also leads to the dark side.

    NSD for me :)

Lovely day with DGD here. She texted me this afternoon to see if she could come for a couple of hours....I told her to bring her nightie and she could stay the night (she's 11) and loves to come. It gives her a bit of peace from her 3 brothers I think lol.

We had LO stew from yesterday and added a pile of dumplings. She's been helping Grandad and busying herself with me. She's got a good appetite and has gone through my bowl of fruit tonight lol. We do enjoy having her here.

Cold, wet and windy tonight :( we're at another Ruby wedding 'do' tomorrow dinner and looking forward to it. Meeting up with old friends.

    Take care everyone x

Anybody else see Food and Drink this morning with their "budget" recipes? Particularly entertained with the desert for four - bramley apple and blackcurrant souffle costing only around £2 per serving, accompanied by a £7 bottle of desert wine  Wishing my food budget would allow that, I need to stretch that £15 over at least three full days worth of meals for three of us (me and two teenagers who are bottomless pits that cannot be filled) and it can be done :D

Oh my goodness, you reminded me of the food programme on bbc2 during the week with Michel Rous jnr. They are concentrating on frugal food but why on earth would anyone save on their food, to then serve it with a £10 bottle of wine. It doesnt make sense to me. Get the priorities right!!

Wow Soworried those bargains are amazing. We never have offers like that around here. Here its more like 20p off something on its last sell by date or with the package badly damaged. Think they would rather ditch the stuff than let the customers get something cheap.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.
