Just back from our New Asda, opened on Monday after my experience on Sunday with the YS scrum at the old store I decided I wouldn't bother looking for reduced.

I was delighted to see that the new store has a different policy. The reductions are just left on the shelves where they were. marvellous
Everyone gets a fair chance and no pushing and shoving. I felt so much safer and still got my bargains to name the best, cherries at 50p, ready to eat plums at 50p, normally £2:eek: bread at 20p, big bag stirfry veg 50p and three bags snap peas at 20p each. I also bought mosarella cheese and wholemeal pittas as I have a SW recipe for sin free pizza. Also two packs of bacon as my DGS wont eat Nanny bacon pieces

I also spent £3 in Iceland on offer two packs of 4 fish in sauce, one parsley and one butter , that makes 8 meals for me at 38p a portion add a baked potato and a few peas not much more than 50p a meal.

Total spend £11. I have £8 left in purse but wont need anything else now, but wont declare yet just in case.

I'd normally use rice rather than potato, and do sweetcorn alongside the peas, but that was a favourite stand-by of mine for a loooong time :D

I really must make some freezer space to pop some of the fish in, though I'll probably start with just the one pack as I'll be taking a gamble there's not enough dairy in the meal to trigger my lactose intolerance - which is thankfully only fairly mild and not easily kicked off most of the time. I've been trying to make my own from scratch using soya milk for the sauce, but it takes that much longer to make that it's fine as a planned meal, but not when I'm short on time and need something 'now'.

  • That's my month ended, spent £266 on groceries this month so well into budget. Pleased as this included a week with my son home plus a huge food parcel for him to return to University with.
I felt a bit mean because we usually treat him with pizzas and takeaways and meals out when he returns home but he loved the home cooking. However I still can't persuade him to enjoy cabbage or Bread and Butter pudding!

    My month has finished today.
I'm declaring over budget. £221.29/£200 I don't feel too bad as it's my first month of the GC, and I must say it's really got my thinking / looking where I spend it. The biggest shock to me was coffee. I have a tassimo (which I love and will never give up!). However, I have spent £20 on pods for it. Maybe I need to cut down
I've started going to Tesco, Sainsbury and Lidl now. Searching out which shop is best for what. Previously I just shopped in Sainsbury !
This thread is so friendly and encouraging. Thanks you all

  • Declaring I was finished a week before the month ends was a dumb idea. Ran out of bread, knew I'd added about a pound to my GC total for milk but am doing fine on that so popped to the shop - some excellent YS bargains (2 sandwiches for 30p each, hot cross buns for 20p, bread for 20p... and some valentines chocolate - oops), so just a few pence to add, but still feel that I should have been good and just bought the bread I needed!

I think I may have done my last shops for the month, but will not declare yet just incase I need something else. I've got 2 lots of vouchers for M'son's which will be used on two shops for March next Saturday or Sunday, so that will be £20 off those shops. I gauged it so I only spent £40 and with staff discount 10% we are well stocked up on toilet rolls 16 rolls £5 and the £2.50 4 tins Tuna I used these to pad out the shops. Next week I will get extra meat for the freezer for the £40 spend to use the £10 vouchers.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)
