February 2014 Grocery Challenge

Ad-hoc visit to SBurys instore Pharmacy saw me wandering the meat aisle whilst waiting late this afternoon and I bought quite a few YS meat items, which will provide plenty of meals and last us well into next month.
TTD Free Range Chicken, TTD Beef Joint, Gressingham Duck, Braising Steak and large lamb steaks were all YS. A very naughty treat of ready sliced runner beans at a shocking £1.50 and some body spray and I spent £28.08.
I've still 2 weekly shops to do from my Feb budget, though could scrap the last one and push it into March. Will need packed lunch bits, fresh fruit/veg, milk, so as I'm already over the £80 budget I challenged myself with I think I need to try and keep within the £100 I would normally budget. Not going to give up!Back on the DFW Wagon:
CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/180 -
As it stands I'm done for the month...as long as I can stay out of any supermarkets! Will use my lunch time walks to peruse the retail park opposite work instead of walking to a supermarket just for the sake of it.
Won't declare just yet as the unexpected could always happen but fingers crossed for a week of NSDs when it comes to groceries!************************************

£5.45 spent recently on yoghurt, baking potatoes, ibuprofen (horrific sciatica attack, not sure the stuff even worked but I was desperate), salami and a few other bits.

NSD.
Managed to make a frugal meal - for dinner we had some seriously OOD rice mix from the bowels of the chest freezer. I added some chopped up gammon(LO from Christmas) and 2 eggs plus some seasonings.
I have enough LO gammon in fridge to do a stir fry tomorrow with veggies that are in there - so no spending for the meal again.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

4 Cans of a popular lager were on sale at £7.00 for 8 cans.
Next to this were 4 of the same cans, a little bit worse for wear, but drinkable. The other 4 were missing.
Soooooooo ....... if you only get 4 cans, and they are reduced, and they are dented, why was the price £5.85????
Surely 4 cans should be half price, and a bit extra off 'cos they're dented????
I asked the manager, pointed this out, so he took them off display and said .....satisfied?
I also pointed out a 2 pack of kitchen roll worked out at £2.00.
The paper sheets worked out as 16p / 100 sheets. The four pack was £4.00, however it said sheets were 26p per hundred sheets. The same info was on both wrappers, same amount of shhets per roll, soooooo... why is one 16p, and the other is 26p?
Because there's 4 in one pack, and 2 in the other!!!!!! DUUH!!! :mad:0 -
I cooked gammon on Friday, fridged it as soon as it was cool so I'm presuming it will be OK and not kill me if I chop some up to add to my rice and veggies for my lunch tomorrow...right?************************************

NSD today. Used left over chicken and gammon bits to make chicken, ham and mushroom pie. Two pieces frozen along with a two portion pie and we had some for dinner tonight.
Two crime brûl!e donated by my Dad. They moved two doors away so I could help look after them but it's the other way round! Not complaining though.GC Feb £95.45/£1000 -
£8.57 to add to my total but think all I will need from supermarket til the end of the month is milk and bread. Possibly having a meal out next week but may split cost between GC and my 'special occasion' budget.New graduate trying to get debt-free.
