Had lunch with a friend today so $10 spend (planned ahead so ok). Dinner was rice and some dips I scored from church last night. Probably not the healthiest option but it was FREE!:rotfl: (apart from the rice). Rest of the rice will go to work tomorrow to have with some chilli con carne from last week - and maybe some salsa and guacamole from the church stash.March 2020 grocery challenge $921.76/$500AU

Have been so busy with work that i've had no time to come on here for over a week so i've just read the last couple of pages. Meg what an awful experience for you. I've had a similar experience myself which is why i don't go YS hunting. If there happens to be any, and its not to busy, then i will have a look. Otherwise i keep clear from it.
Anyway, have managed quite a few NSD (yeah!!!) however i've had to do a couple of "big shops" to stock my cupboards again, plus its half term and i didn't take that into account when i set my budget (boo!!). Anyway, i kept all my reciepts and this is the damage.....
£27.70 Icel*nd
£73.31 Mr T's
£15 Home B's (not such a bargain because I only went in for 1 thing)
So thats a total of £116.01 (yikes!!!)
Bringing my total to..... £231.02/£250 :eek::eek:
I'm NEVER gonna be able to stick to budget am I??

I think I will need to increase by budget for this month too!
DS is full of old/sore throat today so in need of TLC. Went an bought a nice fat butchers chicken today and its simmering with some onion and celery and will make some nice chicken soup for us all later (I want to keep the germs at bay!!) Luckily its half term and the kids are old enough to entertain themselves this week whilst I work in my home office.
I did buy the poor lad some ice cream though which he is eating, not sure if its a teenage thing but he has lost a lot of body fat and is looking very scrawny at the moment so I am happy to let him have some ice cream. I made him some porridge and syrup this morning and dosed him up with meds, so that coupled with some fresh fruit and chicken soup I hope I can get him back on form quickly - he has a sporting even to train for and its not likely he will get any training done this week.
Regarding the grocery budget I will try and keep it as low as possible and not lose the plot but I think maybe £350 to the end of the month. We will see though!!
Have a good day everyone

I think my DH thinks i'm crazy. I've just put the £19.98 that I have left in this months budget in a pot and said thats all we have left and all food purchases have to come out of that! I think if i can physically see it, then i will be much more aware and spend less. I'm not expecting it to last the month, but i'm interested in seeing how long i can make it last.

Hello All
Please to report I have made my Al*i free range chicken do Saturday, Sunday teas, DH lunch today and enough left over to make chick and mushroom pie!!! I hate picking the carcass but will do again - really tasty chicken too.
Making Crusty Cheddar Pie for tonight's tea - leeks broccoli and celery with sauce and Cheesy mash on top - first time we are trying it but have all ingredients in and trying to go Meat Free on Mondays!
Will let you know how it turns out. Also making apple pie - as have pastry in freezer. Those are my jobs for this afternoon.
Away end of week but out of another budget. Catch up next Monday - not long then until our payday.
Sorry to hear about your troubles Meg72- some people! That's why I don't bother either with YS unless it is very very quiet.
Take care.July 16 £95/£200
Nov 16 £0/£200

I am trying another one of the recipes from the index today. Slow cooked beef with port and stilton. The smell coming from the kitchen is fab.
I have not done too well this month and will be glad when pay day comes around so I can start fresh again.0 -
Food wise I started badly with a top up shop from Aldi, but have managed to keep all the extras down to a minimum. So at the moment I have spent £70 for the month, but my food stocks are high so no need to buy much at all. I have added a load of frozen items to my shopping list for my next online mega shop (so far £103) but I might be able to avoid that for another month or more. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Well thats £2 out of the pot already! Little one wanted to go to the pound shop as he had £3 to spend. Took him as i knew he would get something to play with this week (he is obsessed with army figures). Ended up buying a double pack of jaffa cakes which i thought were a complete bargain and then so sensitive pro active tooth paste. I have mega sensitive teeth and spend a fortune on this toothpaste (£2.67p a tube) so when i saw it in foreign packaging i just had to buy some. Its colgate, so i'm hoping its the same as i buy from Mr T's. Gonna give it a try this week and if it is then i'm going back to buy a few more tubes as it will save me a few quid in the long run.
I could have spent a fortune in there today. In fact, if i hadn't worked my what was left in my budget before i went then i probably would have spent the lot!
