Hi everybody and welcome to all our new friends :j

The weather is pretty grim now up North but was actually quite pleasant around 8.30 when I took Lylapup out.I gave her a good walk in case it was bad later. The fields are absolutely sodden though, needed my wellies for sure.Pooch doesnt like getting her feet wet and muddy and will trek all ways to try and avoid it :D

Been cleaning and tidying for 2 days cos we've got a viewer for the house at 3.The EA asked to call at 11to have a look round as he's not been before. At 10.30 I'd just stepped from the shower and he rang to say he was here  so I had to ask him to give me 5 mins. DS2 has also just had the most enormous punch bag delivered- dont ask me why he didnt have it delivered to his house,so having tidied the garage yesterday I'll have to now drag it in there :(

Chinese chicken for tea,and lo bread and butter pud.Using up stores as much as possible to avoid spending ,as the job DH & DS are on which was meant to last months is likely to be halted in the next 2-3 weeks, and the next one they had has been put back, possibly till summer but only as long as the clients business picks up.So not good news on the work front
Had a bit of extra tidying as DGD came for tea last night unexpectedly and she had the play dough out but it was worth it :D.Saw DGS too but he was fast asleep the whole time.

Hope everyone is ok with the bad weather, and hugs to Hilstep and anyone else who needs one x

Hi chums, well I'm all Tivo'd up and its brilliant.I am very pleased with it.Even more pleased that my cable bill has been reduced by £19.00 :):) I am looking to cut back on as many bills as possible this year.My next one I am looking for is new house insurance.I have seen a few quotes and am going to shop around on the net to get the best value if possible :):)
Sun came out for awhile this morning but its clouding up now so I think the storm is on its way.I promosed to run my three DGS and their Dad to see the Gills at home tonight ,will have to wait and see if the game goes ahead first I think.
Keep warm everyone and dry if possible
    Cheers JackieO xxx

We used Halifax last year for our buildings and contents insurance.

We pay monthly (at no extra cost) and got £50 cash back direct from Halifax.

We pay about £16 per month, which includes accidental damage for both buildings and contents, all risks and legal assistance.

That works out at £142 for the year - this is for a detached 3 bedroomed bungalow, which I think is quite good.

PS - the cash back was paid without any hassle straight into our bank account.

I have followed the thread for a couple of years and have found such good advice, best one is the Sistercas Christmas Fund. my £1 a day this year nearly covered all the presents and has been a godsend in a difficult year for us. My OH has been diagnosed with a rare disorder this year and has not been able to work for the last six months and not a very good prospect of being able to.

So I shall be reading avidly for all the money saving tips I can pick up

    xx

Welcome glad you have de lurked :D

Sorry to hear about DH, I'm glad the sistercas fund is working for you , I find it a great help too xx
  • It was a beautiful start to the day and I got some washing on the line, but then we had a massive hail storm with thunder and lightning that lasted a good half an hour  So I sent DS out to get the washing in :D

Started to spring clean a bit and the living room is finished and I am half way through the dining room which is actually my bedroom. But my arthritis is really bothersome now, so I have had to stop for a while, oh well such is life :(

Got a cheque from BT this morning closing the account, only £26 but it is better than nothing, so that will go into the Christmas 2014 fund.

NAR......I hope that you are safe, it sounds like the weather has hit Ireland hard :(

Hi everyone I am usually just a lurker but thought I would reply to Yvieblue about OS courses. If you log onto Futurelearn there are a whole ramge of courses free of charge. These are all run by various universities and are very good. I completed a couple just before Christmas and I am starting one on Forensic Science next week. They cover a range of subjects and are easy going.

Thank you so much for that :)
Just about to sit down with a cuppa after having a clean through the house so I'm off to have a browse to see what grabs me - Forensic Science sounds interesting.
Best wishes to you and your OH - I'm sure you'll find lots of useful tips on these forums - I'm getting quite hooked on the place:D

You can "surf" the Severn bore. Anyone fancy breaking out their wetsuits? ;)
Umm.... think I'll pass on that, seeing as I can't actually swim.:D

Does anyone know if it is possible to freeze mushrooms, or do they turn to mush?
Yes! I buy 'shrooms for £1 for a big bowl at the local F&V market, then portion them up to the correct amount for mushroom risotto, [STRIKE]slice them[/STRIKE] get Mr LW to slice them, and freeze the slices in little boxes, one box per risotto, iyswim.:o

Norfolksaver sorry to hear of your DH's health problems - I hope things turn out as well as possible for you both. Many thanks for the info on Futurelearn; I may take a wee look myself, though it'd have to be something I could do solely online, being semi-housebound.:o

Lucky me, I managed to get Ronnie walked in between showers - he's ever so good walking with the mobility buggy, and he does love his walks!:D

  • Afternoon all
Late post from me today, DGS went home at 11:30 & I swapped him for DGD, I've just taken her home as I've hit a wall of tiredness & I need to rest for a while.
I received a lovely large ball of wool today, I've no idea who from as here was no note & no return address, if it was anyone on here, thank you very much. I have also received some baby knitting patterns from an MSE'r, so the needles will be clicking this evening.
Meat loaf & mash for tea tonight with veg from the garden, yummy.
    Have a lovely evening everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Evening everyone

Girls have now gone to their dad's for the weekend, so have a little free time. Today was a frantic day. Had a friend round with her girls and I swear I spent a ridiculous amount of time chasing them round tidying up after them. I usually go to people's houses rather than the other way round, but as my dog is away at the moment, figured I should return the favour. It was madness! And they kept injuring themselves. One fell down the stairs from top to bottom after tripping over the end of a fancy dress she was wearing (she was fine, thank god, I panicked more than anyone else) and another (one of mine) walked into a chair and has a big bruise on her cheek. Eek!

Nothing much OS done today, although I am going to look up a few recipes to cook next week for the girls and prepare the shopping list to get over the weekend.

Dinner is... hmm, I have no idea as girls are not here. Will have a search through the cupboards and use something up that is taking up space as I'm not going to the shops as that will just encourage me to buy a bottle of wine and I am on Sober January, day 3 so far, yay!

Many thanks for this lamewolf, I found a packet lurking in the fridge that I had forgotten.

    Timer is going, so bbl.

Back now: i now have 7 boxes of mushrooms in the freezer, so easy to do. And to think of the times I have thrown them out, well no more.

  • Hi all,

Hope everyone who is near the floods is ok, makes me so sad to see all the pictures on the news :(

Work again today but it was a better day than yesterday, even more so because it's now the weekend! Shame all weeks are not 2 day weeks! Still I got everything organised and have a plan for next week, I do like my lists :p

Another day of the 'rubber roast beef' tonight, that plus leftover puff pastry = mini beef wellingtons :T the freezer is almost bursting too so that should keep us going for a while.

DVD tonight I think, not sure which one yet though. Hopefully will make it out somewhere this weekend if we can dodge the showers. Might also find something to bake from one of my new cookbooks, the only problem is there's too much to choose from and I can never decide, oh well I will just have to make multiple goodies :D

Have a good evening all, and stay safe.
    Emma
