O/S Daily Friday 3rd January 2014 This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning :hello:

I knew the seeds were inside the holly berry. And that's it :D I'd never heard of bletting so had to google it, and also spent all day wondering whether I should feed the berries to the chickens then plant their poo :rotfl: The holly is now in the compost, I've decided to just buy plants :D

Mr tru is most peed off – he thought he was 42 this year. I told him he is already 42, and in a few days he'll be 43 :rotfl:

The house is clean, tidy, and has had a good airing. The kitchen walls are looking much better :D

Everyone else is still in bed. It's very cosy here atm, I've lit a scented candle and am drinking coffee while listening to the wind and rain.

I want to sort out the food cupboards today and start writing a shopping list. I'm not going to bother with the freezers, I'm not entirely sure what's in them but they're pretty full :D I'll go through them when they're half-empty and give them a good sort out.

I was going to nip into town later but the weather is awful. I'll go through my new crochet book instead and try out a few new stitches. I had a 1kg bar of choc for Christmas and I haven't opened it yet, might have a nibble on that later :D

I hope people stay away from the River Severn today, there's a bore due at any moment. They're fab to watch, but they always come further up the bank than you think. It's a big bore this morning, and in this weather it'll be really dangerous.

• Good morning all,
Windy, wet and still quite dark here.
Hubby is at work, girls are still in bed. Enjoying a second cuppa in peace, bliss.
Got to take dd's sample to the hospital this morning. That will probably be as far as i go today.
Wm is on. House is tidy. i plan to take everything out of the food cupboard today, clean it and put everything back in a neat and tidy order. Haven't got an awful amount in there so it shouldn't take long.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still dark, raining and everywhere sodden and still windy here this morning. Started raining very late last night and is still going, it's really heavy at the moment - looks set in for the day.

DH up and gone to work not stupid early though. I'm up enjoying a peaceful cuppa and brekkie, have had a shower and I'm dressed. Boys still in their pits, they can get up at their leisure.

Dinner last night was roast chicken pieces, mash, LO roasties, LO roasted parsnips, LO yorkshires, carrots, broccolli, green beans, peas and gravy. Menfolk had mince pies for dessert. Tonight will be a quick and easy dinner just because it's Friday - probably chicken and bacon kievs, chips and beans, for the menfolk. It's likely I'll have fish/salad, omelette, or jacket potato.

I was reasonably productive yesterday, got going with the remaining washing, drying and ironing, all done and put away. When DH comes home from work tonight it's likely there'll be enough to make another load - which I will get in the machine tonight so I can get it either out on the line/in TD tomorrow morning then get it ironed. Also did some other jobs - sorting papers etc.

Have a list of chores to do today - I will be heading to town shortly, the bank, building society, and opticians, then food shopping. Also need to stop off at the caravan on the way past to take some items back and to get our key back as we've had a little job done - the door catch on the fridge broke - which meant I couldn't use the breather setting - which we use all the time when the caravan is not in use, only a few quid but want to square up with the repair guy. Also need to see which of DH's suits he's left in there as he has a meeting to go to tomorro and I can't find a full suit here at home - hoping we haven't somehow lost/left something somewhere!

Have a good Friday everyone x

Keep safe and well x

Good Morning All

Sitting here drinking coffee, only DS in and he is fast asleep and its bliss :D

Pouring with rain here at the moment, have checked facebook and none of my friends who live nearer the rivers (we live in between 2 rivers/estuarys) have posted anything so hope everyone is ok.

OH is at work but keeping an ear out to see if the Dartford Bridge will be shut - it causes absolute chaos.

I have had a lazy start just surfing, will get back into normal routine next week. Plans today - need to pop out for a couple of bits, will do some housework and some officework. Everything needs a complete blitz but hey baby steps :rotfl:

Not sure what is for dinner tonight, will go outside and have a look around my extremely full freezer when the rain abates. Really need to start using up some stuff. Its much easier to plan dinners when DD is not here, she is so fussy.

Thats if for me today, have a good one and stay safe and dry.x

Morning all.
Have taken a coffee back to bed with me - disgustingly lazy I know but want to make the most of these last few days "off" before the business of getting the boys off to school on time begins again!
I love having them at home but I have to say, even at their ages, it does make me so much less productive - largely because I spend most of the time making snacks and cups of tea :D
At some point today I want to research some courses in the hope of finding a hobby/interest to take up - it's part of my aim to try to get some enjoyment back into the daily grind this year (trouble is, I'm not actually very good at anything :D) - needs to be fairly MSE though.
Tuna and Pasta bake for tea tonight - not a family favourite but it's all that's available until the grocery shop tomorrow.
Hope it stops bucketing long enough to walk the pooch - he doesn't like getting soaked any more than I do!
Have a good day everyone x

Good Morning all,and a wet'n'windy one it is at the moment .I hope those who live near to water are safe from the flooding.I am about 1 mile from the River Medway and reasonably safe.
Really nasty looking day out there.I'm definitely not going anywhere today Its a day of sitting by the fire and doing some knitting.I am just waiting for the Virgin man to arrive and fit a Tivo box this morning .I managed to get a good deal and cut back on the amount of stuff on the cable as I rarely get much time to watch half of it anyhow so a lower rental by around £19.00 a month and a free Tivo box which will be handy as most stuff I watch is on catch-up anyhow .
I hope you all have a good day and keep safe and dry.
Its so sad when you see the flooding around the country and how devastating it is for folk to lose precious stuff.Often you can replace furniture, but personal things photo's etc are often irreplaceable
Take care everyone and keep warm if possible

Morning :)

All is calm, awful wind and rain overnight. Lots of fields round here are swimming. Hope everyone who lives close to river is safe x
My parents are coming down for the day today. Not sure what we are doing. Off to drag kids with Luna for a walk this morning. DD not keen on going but being the little princess she is getting muddy isn't her thing. Oh well she's outta luck there :rotfl:

Not loads of OS, shall put BM on shortly. Need to Hoover at some point, but first coffee and breakfast and then to brave the outdoors.

Not sure what's for tea.

Hugs and spoons all round xx

Morning everyone,

Molly, Hilstep Hugs.

Oh has gone back to work this morning and all the children are still in bed making the most of their last lie ins. Going to the supermarket this morning to stock up on fruit, veg and other essentials, the healthy eating must start soon!

Had a lovely day yesterday visiting some friends in Rugby but now I really must tidy my house as I am back at work on Monday and there are rumours of the dreaded Ofsted (mind you there have been rumours for the last year and a half!)

Have a lovely and productive day everyone and stay safe in all this wind and rain, I hope that none of you are affected by flooding, it must be truly awful. :)

Morning all

tru. I've had to google 'bore' I'd never heard of it , ended up watching a bore on the river Severn on you tube . Strange stuff.

At the moment we have blue sky in Yorkshire :j don't think it will last

Not sure what the plan is today , both DDs will be revising for exams, so won't be going out . I have got washing and ironing to do ,so may do that . I had a subscription to essentials magazine for Xmas and in the 1st one there is a sewing project to make a bag to cover an ipad , I might have a go at that if I have enough material , it needs some wadding to go between the layers and I only have thick wadding , I'll see if I can split it :D

I cleaned the fridge out last night , it was still crammed from Xmas / new year :o I think I'll make a bottom of the fridge bendy veg soup .

Have a good day everyone xx

Morning all,

strangely peaceful here weather wise, we are supposed to be in the middle of this storm and its calm and very warm and the birds are singing ! Hope everyone stays safe today.

Off to work for me OH and dd still off so they can manage dinner and a tidy through between them, dinner will be my mums recipe chicken casserole and rice, its real comfort food and so easy !

Will ask them to do a wash today too, will get ahead for the weekend then, we have had a leaky roof over the last few days and it has come through the ceiling in the newly decorated bedroom causing a damp patch and mould has started to grow, OH needs to get on the roof to fix it so we can hopefully do it this weekend.

Stay safe today !
