Well done, TM6 :) You are doing really well!
How is the saving going, have you managed to save anything yet, or do you wait until the end of the month and put something into an account?

I'm in! It's gonna be a lean January, but at least I'm starting with a full fridge/freezer/cupboards! Have stashed some savings from December's pay, but would be good to get through January with a few quid to spare :-)

How is January going for you - we are now over half way through it :D

May I offer some encouragement? I'm renowned for needing a crowbar to lever money out of my purse, so regard myself as good at saving (just wish there was more coming in to actually salt away, but that's another story).

It's only a bargain if you actually need to buy it in the first place remember; why not delete all the URLs for shopping from your favourites, for a start?:o

I'm trying to go without alcohol for the whole of January, which is going to be a challenge, to say the least; so - how about I forgo alcohol, if you forgo the sales.:o

How is your forgoing of alcohol going? I've now had 3 NSDs in a row

I'm in too, 3 freezers are bursting at the seams so I need to reduce it to one large and one smaller freezer!

I am getting better at spending as I always ask myself is it a want or a need, most of the time it's a want and once I have decided not to get something I never seem to think of it again.

Are your freezers going down? Are you starting to see a difference?

I'll be with you. I want to build up savings in my PO account as backup, in case current account at another bank decides to get hung up at any time.

Just been to T@sc@ and saved £3.40 using old coupons that I almost threw away - that will be the starting amount in my tin. Will just need bread on Saturday, also newspaper (we only buy once a week for TV schedule), otherwise no shopping needed until next Thursday.

Is your PO account building up nicely?

If it helps I've recently told my husband that if my card is on me whilst out I spend. So weekly I will put money in my spare account just for shopping, it has no overdraft so I can not go over.
I've given my joint card to my husband d because my budget is low I have to make sure it's really needed before I buy.

Today for example I took my shop card and went to lidl with my mum I bought 1 item which is needed......toilet roll 20 rolls 3 ply was £5.99 but was still marked down at £5.29 I saw it as a good deal and usually buy 20+ rolls at a time anyway. It rang up on the till as £5.99 but I questioned it still and she apologised honoured my purchase as they forgot to take the reduced price sign down. We had two rolls left at home so I grabbed em.
Went to the bargain shop and only bought bleach 55p and nappy cream £1 both really needed. I was very proud of myself.

I've decided to start running our home like a buisness and every penny will be logged!
I have a diary and I've started putting the receipts init and will total it up on the Sunday.

Il also be reading my meters and checking the balance on my pre payment meters every Friday.

I've made a meal plan to last till the 30th based on what I already have in to use it up and try not to blow my budget.
The only things il need next week are milk, bread, mince, and three whole chickens from farmfoods for £10 and will be putting two in mil's spare freezer..

Good luck! Il be watching this thread to see how you get on.

I think the online shopping is a good decision!

And you've given me the idea to have a money pot too.

Are you using a money pot now?

I think I really need to join in on this thread, our spending got a bit out of control last year and it wasn't on luxury stuff either, I think a large chunk was wasted on alcohol as we moved in June and we stopped home brewing, so I'll be setting some on the go very soon

I'm also forgoing alcohol this month, I drunk way to much over the festive period and my bank account is hating me... I'm thinking of only drinking home made stuff, we have some of the wine kits in, which take about a month but taste better after 3 months, so I'm aiming for the first quarter wine free

Have you restarted your home brewing yet? How is the forgoing alcohol going?

I am going to join too.

I am funny with saving - manage it no problem for my sons ISA and his Xmas/Birthday fund.

I do have two other savings pots - holidays and rainy day and these are the ones I keep having to empty.

I have a massive store of food but get so tempted when I visit the super market. I used to shop online but its popping in for milk and bread that gets me, £40 later I am bringing even more food home.

Got quite a lot of baby clothes to sell but I am going to wait until end of the month to list them on ebay.

Have you thought about long life milk? - a lot is eewww but we like Just Milk
