Wahoo, my 1st NSD of 2014 and to celebrate I have put £5 into my 'pot of dreams'

We get paid on the 26th of the month so it will be then that I know how much I can transfer over into savings

I am going out with a gf today to Otley for some sales shopping as well as visiting the charity shops. I hope to be really disciplined with myself, either buying what I need or what I can sell on ebay.

How is everyone else doing with their savings challenge?

I definitely feel like I am winning the battle of spending V saving

I have paid for a delivery saver for 3 months with ASDA and this will help me stop any unnecessary impulse buying :T

I also have a delivery saver with Tesco so that I can take advantage of buying in bulk when an item is on special offer.

I may seem a bit mad to have delivery savers with two supermarkets but I buy stock for both a Family Cafe that I run at my local church as well as for the cafe at my local community centre.

Fuel is such a big expense in our household and I am sure that having my shopping delivered will make a big dent in our fuel bill.

I have also just transferred money out of my bank account into my savings account - wahoo :D

Our finances are having a money make over today. We are completely pairing back all non essentials.

I have been half hearted about it before but now I am determined to SAVE :j

Hiya TM6 :) Sounds like you've had a productive day!
The same as you, i gave myself a money makeover and decided that i wanted to start saving NOW. I really dont regret it :)

I get paid weekly (Fridays), and every week i write my budget for that week-so how much will go out on bills (DDs and SOs from the bank), food, petrol and any other necessary expenditure.

Whatever is left over is put into a savings account. I do allow myself a few 'treats'. For example i am trying to take better care of myself recently, so have spent £10 on nail varnish and skin beautifying things. But that isn't every week (more like once every 6 weeks), and i limit it to £10.
That is how i do it, but i am sure you'll find a 'system' that works for you.

It has taken me 2 months to save £1000. On paper, i should have £600 a month left over after rent, bills, food, petrol etc..so i think i am doing OK.

Also, i need an aim to work towards, so i set myself mini monthly targets.
Last month i was aiming for £600, then £1000 by the end of Jan (if you see my signature, i have £40 left to go). My goal for February will be £1500. I can change it every month depending on what i have planned. I find this works very well for me, so maybe you could work towards a monthly goal too?

    Good morning Money Spiders :D

It is now the 12th and although I have only had 1 NSD I am definitely getting more frugal

I am keeping up to date with my money spending diary and it is looking REALLY good. I will only know at the end of the month how much I can transfer into savings but it is looking very promising.

My biggest change thanks to the frugal challenge is that I am inspired to cut back to the bone so that I can save more.

Day 2 of our money makeover :D

We are going to work on 3 bank/building society accounts for our system - we will be opening a 3rd one on line today

Acc 1 - Pay goes in and Direct Debits, Standing Orders come out
Acc 2 - Everyday account for use with debit card
    Acc 3 - Savings account

I see January as a step learning curve with the fruits of saving showing in February
