Marvin The Moneyspider's Web Of Saving! SAVINGS CHALLENGE

Options
There are absolutely LOADS of different ways to save money here on MSE and brilliant ideas to cut back.........

but the reality is that I have ZERO savings, nada, niente, zilch, my pig is empty

I get a great buzz when I sniff out a bargain but saving leaves me cold.

I NEED TO CHANGE :rotfl:

I am setting myself a 6 month challenge which will incorporate no spending days, £2 sealed pot challenge, selling on ebay, running down the freezer etc

This is a self indulgent thread but if you are a mad capped shopaholic who would like to mend their ways, please come and join me

To keep my motivation up :j, I am going to keep a diary of spending at home and write an update on here.

Any words of encouragement will be greatly appreciated as I go into spending rehab

  • I'm in! It's gonna be a lean January, but at least I'm starting with a full fridge/freezer/cupboards! Have stashed some savings from December's pay, but would be good to get through January with a few quid to spare :-)

    Awesome :D

I am definitely having withdrawal symptoms from spending... my fingers are twitching wanting to surf the internet for sale bargains.

I can see this saving lark is going to be REALLY difficult :rotfl:

May I offer some encouragement? I'm renowned for needing a crowbar to lever money out of my purse, so regard myself as good at saving (just wish there was more coming in to actually salt away, but that's another story).

It's only a bargain if you actually need to buy it in the first place remember; why not delete all the URLs for shopping from your favourites, for a start?:o

I'm trying to go without alcohol for the whole of January, which is going to be a challenge, to say the least; so - how about I forgo alcohol, if you forgo the sales.:o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • I'm in too, 3 freezers are bursting at the seams so I need to reduce it to one large and one smaller freezer!

I am getting better at spending as I always ask myself is it a want or a need, most of the time it's a want and once I have decided not to get something I never seem to think of it again.
  • I'll be with you. I want to build up savings in my PO account as backup, in case current account at another bank decides to get hung up at any time.

Just been to T@sc@ and saved £3.40 using old coupons that I almost threw away - that will be the starting amount in my tin. Will just need bread on Saturday, also newspaper (we only buy once a week for TV schedule), otherwise no shopping needed until next Thursday.

It would be easier if I forgo the alcohol and you forgo the sales.....I'm teetotal :rotfl:

I would love to say yes but I'm going sales shopping tomorrow :o but, I am only buying a present if I know who I am going to buy it for.

However I am more than happy for us to encourage each other as I am determined to get better....I'm just not sure about cold turkey :rotfl:

Brilliant - this is fab - the more the merrier :D

I don't want this to be a New Year's Resolution, this HAS to be a life change for me. No going back to my carefree days with money.

I have to have a healthy respect for it (she says praying :rotfl:)
