Talk Talk Opinions Please

Hi all

I am currently with Talk Talk but would like a few opinions on them as I am undecided whether to stay. At present, I don't think they are great - my BB is often slow and sometimes I have to reset my router because the internet completely cuts out.

Will it be any better if I upgrade to fibre optic broadband? I've heard it could be because their router is poor - will it help if I buy a better router?

I called them ages ago and they said it is a problem with the router. They changed by router but the problems persist.

I'm just wondering really whether others have similar issues and whether paying the extra to have BT would be better.

Is it a problem with your wireless connection or is the internet dropping out at the router.
If the former have you been instructed in basic fault finding by TT.
i.e Plugging router into the master test socket checking microfilters etc.
Do you know how to find and measure your router line statistics?
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • I'm a TalkTalk customer, I'm not a fan of their telephone support as it can be very hit and miss. My main problem with with their telephone support is I can never understand what the agents are saying which can make resolving a very simple problem very hard!

Have you tried using their online service centre to see if it detects any problems with your broadband? https://my.talktalk.co.uk/servicecentre/

I'm not entirely sure what it does or if it ever actually does anything useful but they push it a lot on twitter and their forums :)

Also, you may find you get a better level of support by using their forums as all the staff on the forums are native English speakers: http://www.talktalkmembers.com/

Can you actually get fibre broadband and do you honestly feel you'd benefit from paying extra for fibre?

I have no problems with the router they supplied me, do you know what model you have? I'm currently using the DSL-3780. It looks ugly but does the job!

I've been with Talk Talk ever since they took over Tiscali.

Not bad in the main though I have noticed that the internet is dropping out more regularly especially around 10pm at night. Router-2780.

In the past the phone has gone dead for an hour or so but has always come back .

I'm just out of contract now on a rolling one. The new deal offered was no where near as good as that offered to new customers.

Perhaps time to change. Probably plus net.

I'm a Plusnet customer also (I have two broadband connections as I work from home), I must be an unlucky customer as I'm not overly thrilled by their support despite their claims of being fantastic at it.

I also didn't think much of them bashing another provider when I was moving house and considering my options, didn't seem very professional to me and only stayed with them when moving as they gave me a free line install in exchange for an 18 month commitment and 9 months half price.

When the service works, it's great and I won't knock the performance in anyway.

I used to have that exact same problem with TalkTalk at my old house, the phone would go dead at random times and then come back on its own. Have you reported the problem via their forums? you may have more luck getting it fixed.

I'm with TalkTalkBusiness, but about to leave: they drop the speed to under 512kbps during the day. They have some weasel words published about dropping the speed after 3pm.

Dido Harding, do you hear me?!

For all Talk Talk knocking, I can assure everyone that there UK service is 10 times better than PCCW in Hong Kong - folks get about 4.5Mb connection consistently, compared to me in HK on 3Mb if lucky and usually lower - folks live 1.5 miles from nearest exchange and fibre now available in our part of South Wales.

Still, folks combined phone and BB bill for past 12 months was £288.00 and that's with IDD boost and value line rental - transpires folks needed "anytime" calls and Primus were cheaper than TT by £3.00 per month, TT deal better in reality though at £8.00 per month if paid value line rental of £126 upfront.

Rang TT "Retentions" to complain at costs when compared with the local competition, was expecting to get a deal of £15.00 per month inclusive of line rental with "anytime" calls.

Here's what happened, chap I spoke too offered to drop all line rental charges, that's £126.00 per annum, said it was because folks are long time users from Tiscali days, so now folks have a full BB and telephone package for £7.25 pm including "anytime" calls, IDD boost and unlimited broadband - that's cheap folks, as my BB charges alone in Hong Kong are £17.00 pm for a lower speed and worse service.

That's the cheapest around folks, £7.25 per month, or £87.00 per year - can't beat that I'm afraid - obviously, a few charges on top will apply, but have saved the folks at least £140.00 compared to last annual charges of £288.00.

Now to see if I can get a mobile boost included as well in this package - will get back after 14th January, but it does pay to haggle, talk to right people and know the competitions local package prices.

I used to be with TalkTalk, never again. I left them to go with Sky, I found talk talks customer services very rude often hanging up and I couldn't understand what they were on about. They got my friends bill mixed up so they cut her off after mistaking the bill, she couldnt even ring emergency services.
