I didn't work the nursery fees out yearly - figured it would make me cry! Still about 40% of my takehome pay and I know I'm lucky to have a job paid well enough that it's worth my while working.
On maternity now so she's in one day a week instead of three. I was hoping it would be cheaper as soon as she went back (January probably) because she would be 3 but then I found out they don't get the 15 hours funding until the term after they are 3 so not until April. I will get 10% discount for her with having two in nursery - that will save me a few pence!
So sleep deprived with a 4 week old atm. Love him dearly but would so like to sleep a full night again sometime in my life!:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

I actually feel much better about it when I remind myself that it works out at £6.95 per hour....But even that is madness, considering the minimum wage is £6.31 - I can totally see how, for many people, going back to work just doesn't make sense.

Nutella, you do salary sacrifice dont you? Are we better off sticking to that or the new tax relief?!

Glad your mum is okay Bangton
 to the nursery fee totals. Can I be nosey and ask where in the country you live?
I'm in Nottinghamshire and my childminder charges £3.30 a hour for under 5's and LO will be with her for 8 hours a day, 3 days a week. Normally that would cost us £6864, but she doing us a term time only deal due to me working in a school so will only cost us £3088.80.
I'm going to do salary sacrifice though. Bit nervous about going back to work 3 days a week as really need the money of working full time but have decided that if we're managing on the income whilst I'm on maternity leave we'll find a way to make it work with me being part time.
Anyway, we had baby massage today. LO enjoyed it, but did spend most of the time looking at the baby next to her and smiling at her instead of looking at me. I didn't mind though, was cute to watch as obviously she was trying to communicate.
Found myself feeling guilty though today as made LO cry. I picked up some samples of wallpaper and once home put LO on her mat with her toys and the wallpaper samples fell out of the changing bag, she grabbed one and instantly put it in her mouth. I said 'No, not that in your mouth' and in a different tone I guess whilst taking the wallpaper out of her hands/mouth. She cried and had a proper protest that she wasn't allowed something.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

Oh hun. Get used to that! I put G's new ride on digger away yesterday (early birthday present and crikey he loves it to pieces!) he was not happy at all!
We went to our first proper play group here today, G was clearly ecstatic to be around new toys and other kiddos, he barely stopped! And I managed to get an invite to a group for kiddies that aren't quite where they should be with their speech - he's getting better, and has a few words - digger is the clearest, little oik hardly ever says mummy! But I'm looking forward to hopefully getting a few new methods to help encourage him.Newborn thread member

You should have seen the 20 min tantrum I lived through yesterday because I took her juice cup away :-( She was watering her clothes rather than drinking it:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

Sunshine, yes we get childcare vouchers - I must admit I haven't looked into the new system yet, so not really sure what it would mean for us. I'm dreading the day when we have to take the sides off the cot bed - partly because she ends up in our bed every night as it is, and partly because she moves around a lot in her sleep and would probably end up on the floor!
Continualdiamond, we're in London. Oh, and I make my LO cry several times a day - when she's not allowed to eat magnetic letters, when she can't have any more grapes, when she's not allowed to climb on the dining table, when I interrupt a fun activity by insisting on changing her nappy... The joys of parenting!Today we had a meltdown because I gave her a cracker instead of a rice cake - this being the very same rice cake that she had a meltdown about two days ago because she didn't want it!
Katie, yay for playgroup!0 -
Oh [BCD[/B] my 5.5 month old is the same. He's having water in a sippy cup now. When I take it off him he goes mad with me and thrashes backwards! It really seems like he's having a tantrum. He's actually the same with spoons too. He puts both hands out to 'help' put the spoon in his mouth when feeding which is uber cute. If I actually let him take the spoon though can I heck as like get it back! He's like a vice! A nursery place for me is £9600 full time in Leeds :eek:0

Bangton, have you tried just letting him keep the spoon and you using a second one? We had the same issue here when we started weaning, but as long as she had a spoon in her hand she was happy!0

Our nursery is £39.50 per day (northern ireland) which seems to be the going rate here. Ds is going 3days a week which on a 5week month is more then our mortgage, madness! We both get vouchers which is great. Ds is settling in at nursery later this week so have been getting everything ready for him, it fab that I can leave nappies clothes and milk there so in the mornings I just need to get him dressed and feed him his bottle.
Nutella I think having endless hot cuppas in work is the only thing im looking forward to, that and a full monthly pay!x
Lazy wife, hope you enjoyed your holiday x
Mrsh, hope lo had a lovely birthday x
Katie glad g loved the playgroup x
We have mini tantrums here too, getting more frequent!Mum of 2 :j0
