Mrs haworth - my little one is 8 month old and currently in a first stage cybex aton. The guidelines on that are that once his crown is above the seat he's too tall. My little one is very long and his head reaches the top so at most I thinkwe may get a couple more months from it.

I'm either going for the maxi cosi priorifix or a britax trifix but I'm hugely concerned that he'll be forward facing far earlier than I'm happy with so will likely look into the erfs too x
  • Morning all.

I haven't posted for ages as been soooo busy it's crazy. I'm now back at work but on the plus side working 3 days really does fly by. I'm trying to get some what organised on household jobs so I don't spend my 4 days off tackling the house.

Thankfully our new washing machine has a timer which is a novelty for me. I love it cos I program it to come on 5 hours from when I leave the house which means the cycle has finished roughly as I walk in the door. I got away with that Monday and Tuesday weather wise as then pegged it out.

Nursery has gone well for LO. I rang twice on Monday and just the once Tuesday and yesterday on my lunch break. No tears when I've dropped her off or picked her up and I've managed to stay watching at the door for a bit when I have picked her up so I can see what she is up too.

Our settling in session when I left her for a hour didn't go so well when I came back to pick her up as when she spotted me she burst into tears and did the whole uncontrollable cry, you know the noise you really don't want to make when you're crying and are actually trying to get yourself out of that cry (if that makes any sense at all, lol). So I was bit worried come Monday but she's loved it and did painting with her feet on the 1st day so we've put the picture on the fridge.

It's tired her out though and once home I'm having to put her down for a sleep. Last night I wasn't too keen on putting her down as we got home later as had a meeting after work, but couldn't bring myself to keep watching her yawn and rub her eyes. She slept from 5:30pm - 8pm, had a 3oz bottle and then was back in bed for 8:45pm, sleeping through until 7am.

Tuesday and Wednesday she woke up at 7am and today and that is totally new as Monday she woke up at her usual 5:30am for a bottle but then because I started getting ready for work she didn't go back to sleep (have always put her back down after her 1st bottle). So finding it quiet interesting that she's waking up later since being at nursery.

Do others give LO tea as such when home from nursery? Monday I tried tea at 5:15pm which has always been the norm but she wasn't as interested, just ate 3 mouthfuls and a yoghurt. Tuesday I went with the approach of putting her down for a sleep once home given how tired she was on Monday, that resulted in her having some tea at 7pm which was cheesy pasta and a yoghurt but then last night I didn't give her anything to eat.

She does have breakfast, lunch and tea at nursery though. But it just felt weird to not give her anything to eat last night, obviously she was fine though and clearly just woke up for her bottle.

I also watched some of the baby programme, I found it really interesting, especially about them being wary of plants.

My LO is 8 mths old tomorrow and she is still in a rear facing seat. I must look into our guidelines for the next one, she's long so may need the next one sooner but she still does fit in width wise comfortably.

Crabapple we had G rear facing til just gone 1 and I had numerous comments from various people about it being mean - you ERFers have my sympathies for the hassle you must get! Its personal choice isn't it?!

Glad to hear LO is enjoying nursery CD! I think Nutella or Mozzy if she's around might be more help with the food after nursery question, but if she's having 3 meals there I'd just give her a little snack eg banana, oaty bar, toast etc if she's in the mood for it. Are you enjoying your hot tea/coffee at work?! I've just necked my first hot one of the day as G is napping :T

CD, my LO has breakfast, lunch and dinner plus two snacks at the nursery - dinner is at 4pm, so she only has fruit and yoghurt when we get home at 6pm. That sees her through until her morning milk at 5.30am-ish, and then she has breakfast when she gets to the nursery at 7.30am. We stopped night feeds at 6 months. I'd say it all depends on how much your LO eats though - my LO loves her food and we're a bit worried about her weight, so we don't give her any more food than we think she needs (without her going hungry of course). I'm sure you'll settle into a routine that works for you after a few weeks.

    Thanks Nutella.

As it stands her 1st bottle which used to be 5:30am but Tuesday and Wednesday was 7:15am is 6oz. She has breakfast around 8:30am at nursery and then has a 2oz bottle in between that and lunch.

Between lunch and tea at nursery she has a 4oz bottle (I send another 2oz bottle just incase though).

Pre nursery days she'd have tea between 5:15 - 5:30pm with then roughly anything from 2 - 4oz of milk before 7pm bed. I just knew that when she went to sleep once home from nursery last that that she'd wake up at some point for that bottle which resulted in her having it at 8pm.

I bare in mind the fruit and yoghurt option as that's pretty much all she fancied Monday night when we got home.

I'll await and see what pattern emerges next week when she's at nursery. Thanks again.

My daughter always has another meal after nursery. It's almost like she eats more that day and is on a roll! We offer tea and yoghurt and she normally eats quite a bit of it.

They told me today she had grapes with her tea. She has never once eaten a grape at home... she always looks at them and asks for one then spits it out. Children are weird!

Evening ladies, on car seats we changed just after 9 months as A was getting too long for her baby seat. We've the maxicosi tobi in oh's car and I've the maxicosi pearl in mine. A seems to find them equally comfy and the buckles are quick and easy to do.

A usually has fruit whilst we have dinner on her nursery days but she does have breakfast, lunch, utea and two snacks there.

Hope you had a good night lazywife, I think I must try cow's milk at night as I am sure it is just for comfort and she will likely refuse that as isn't keen on cow's milk. A treated me last night, went from half 7 to 5:15 then slept again from half 6 for an hour.

Have a good evening all x

Rumour has it my LO eats beans and potatoes at the nursery. She has never eaten a bean or piece of potato at home - they're the two things that she'll always point blank refuse! I think they just like to copy each other :o
  • I think we all know what we you mean Crabapple, once you have a child all your parenting decisions are targets for insensitive people!

I went to my breastfeeding support volunteer training and the health visitor team leader was there. One lady was taking about her friend's kid who would throw up food with lumps in. It made me think of Bangton's LO. The HV team leader said that because the child was so used to getting food quick with purees, the child eats lumps quickly and takes a lot of air in and then the child throws it back up 'cos of the wind. It kind of made sense to me.

I've got my pre-one year check on Monday. I think I'll ask if they have any tips about helping baby drink water. He drinks out of an open cup cos he just doesn't get sippy cups. He's getting a bit better and puts one or both hands on the cup (mummy has one hand on too!) and takes a sip but most of it comes out of his mouth. I'm also not too sure about cutlery use - I might try him with a plastic spoon soon.

I went to the nursery I'm planning to send LO one too. I'm not sure about my reasons why I like it best, I just do! The manager keeps saying the most important thing to her was staff and I do agree with her. I like the food routine too - cereal breakfast before 9, hot meal lunch at 11:45 and sandwich for tea at 4:30. Morning and afternoon snacks are fruit. The cheapest nursery did the afternoon meal at 2:30 which I thought was a bit strange. It did worry me a bit that the manager didn't really respond when I said LO was BLW but I guess that'll be educational to them! He'll be one by the time he goes to nursery so I guess most babies are fully fingerfeeding and on most textures by that time so he won't be that different.

Hearing all these nursery stories reminds me of how kids behave so differently in different environments!

BeNice, I wouldn't worry about BLW and the nursery - they'll no doubt have other babies in the same position (key workers will know much more about this than the manager), and in my experience staff are incredibly adaptable and will work around you and your child's routine. Oh, and when it comes to choosing a nursery, I'd go with the one that feels right for you - whether or not you're able to explain why doesn't really matter; if it feels right it probably is! The one my LO goes to costs £100 more per month than our second preference, but it's absolutely worth it. Now that we're over the room change hurdle, she's back to her very happy self and has a tantrum when I come to pick her up as she doesn't want to leave!

We have this cutlery - it's great :)
