Happy birthday to Reuben, turtlemoose. Hope you a had a brilliant day.
Any tips on how to get lo off the bottle in the morning and at night? He has a sippy cup for water during the day but loves his milk warm in the morning and night and won't have it in any other cup and we've tried a few.
Also when did you all move on in car seats? After newborn. And what car seat do you recommend?Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0 -
We moved up a car seat when he was too tall (read the guidelines for your individual seat - I think ours was something like the ears at the top of the seat or something like that!), and we went to the Britax First Class Plus because I wanted to keep him rear facing and that was about the only RF seat you could get at the time that wasn't a million quid.
He then outgrew that because he reached the weight limit for rear facing, and it's really important to me to keep him rear facing (happy to provide some info/links if you like) as it is so much safer.
I have gone for the Britax Two Way Elite which is ERF until 25kg.

Might seem expensive at £220 (although I bought it from carseat.se because it worked out cheaper to have it shipped from Sweden than it did for me to do a return drive to Milton Keynes) HOWEVER it will last him until he is around 5/6 years old. So let's say it lasts until he's 5, I'll have had over 3 years use out of it... £220 divided by 36 months is £6.12 a month.... well worth it IMO! In reality it's going to last us more than 3 years though and will probably transfer to next child too if it still meets the regulations.
There are cheaper rear facing seats such as the Joie Tilt (RF to 18kg) £83.99 at Argos or the Joie Stages (RF to 18kg then turns forward) around the £140 mark. Or there is the Joie Steadi at £130 which is RF to 18kg.0 -
Happy Birthday Reuben! Loving the tufty hair!
I'm glad you said that about keeping LO rear facing Turtlemoose, cos that's what I want to do. I quite like the cybex sirona cos it rotates. I'll have to ask my parents for some help with money if I want rear facing tho!
wow vickyvics, bubs is doing well to do that much tummy time at 3 weeks!
Hi minimuffin, glad LO is doing well
MrsH I'm looking forward to soft play, ball pools are ace!
AFM went to look at a cheap nursery and it was actually OK. Off to a mid-range one tomorrow (the front-runner) and then it's decision time!0 -
turtlemoose Reuben is a little cutie! I think the black eye just adds a story to the photo0

Happy Birthday Reuben! Hope that you had a lovely day
Welcome, and Congratulations! Mary
Not a lot to say here; busy two days at work but it is getting better. Nursery informed me that A is becoming a favourite with the slightly older kids and they are all competing to try and make her laugh! My cheeky monkey! I'm struggling a little at the moment as over the past two weeks she's been waking for a feed during the night. I know she can go all night without one but am not sure if she's waking because her mouth is hurting with new teeth, or because she is still a little unsettled with going to nursery and being away from me all day or because she has a cold? I do still feed her at bedtime and first thing in the morning... sure it will settle itself. Last night OH tried to settle her when she woke, but after 15 min of on/off crying I went in to settle her so we could all get back to sleep.
hey ho... I keep reminding myself she is only little for such a short time0 -
Yeurgh! We're on waking in the night too Saf, I'm sure they wait until we're back in work to start messing around. He's not really waking for a feed (although I do give him some cows milk in a sippy cup when he wakes) just really grumpy and unsettled and won't sleep unless he's on me. Many loong sleepless nights.. yawn! I've 3 days in a row from tomorrow so hopefully it'll not be too bad tonight. Oh and T has conjunctivitis, nursery have said he's not excluded (which is a relief as there is no-one to watch him) just feeling sorry for himself.
Hi Mary, exciting times with a little newborn, oh and Vics well done on the tummy time. We were never really big on tummy time as T could hold his head from the start, and never really enjoyed being on his tummy (well, cried really) I would do it resting on my chest or over my legs occn if I felt he hadn't done it in a while. If she's liking it, keep it up!
Happy Birthday Reuben! We've not got any pics of T without a bruise on his face now. We average one new one a day, always seems to be his face though!
Off to bed,
Night, night.x0 -

My LO still has a bottle at bedtime, but it's got water in it rather than milk and stays in her bed so she can drink from it in the night if she wants to. I decided it wasn't a battle worth fighting as she gets comfort from sucking on itI replaced the milk with water gradually over six weeks or so - less and less milk and more and more water until it was just water, and we had no complaints. At least I don't have to worry about her teeth with it being just water.
For her morning milk, we bought a second sippy cup identical to the one she already had for water, but in a different colour, which worked for us, as even before she could talk/understand much, she quickly figured out that pink = water and blue = milk. We still warm her milk - mainly because she drinks it very quickly and tends to get hiccups if it's cold!0 -

We moved to the next seat up when LO was 8 months-ish - she's a big girl and the newborn seat was getting a bit too snug! We too went for the Britax First Class Plus, and I know a couple of other people on here also have that one (Gilly... and maybe Katie?). For my parents' car (which is very small) we have the Britax Eclipse, and that's really good too. I think Britax seats are fab and I trust them for safety0 -
Yep Nutella, we've got the first class plus too, well remembered! It's been fine, G is happy in it. Mil got a cheaper fisher price seat for her car and although it obviously meets all the safety standards etc it's a faff to get in the car, a bit awkward to fasten the belt when he's in and not as padded. Worth going to a kiddicare or somewhere and having a look if you can.
Welcome to the new faces! Hope you're all getting on ok.
I'm so sick of this weather. Waklked to playgroup yesterday and got SOAKED , and because I don't want to be dragging G out in the rain to walk the puppy I'm gettign up early to take him for a mile walk over the playing fields before G wakes. Still, I've got a little pedometer thing and it's damn satisfying seeing almost 3k steps before 7am!Newborn thread member

Morning all
Thursday my toddler goes to nursery so today is my 'peaceful' day with just me and my little man. He's really snuffly at the moment though and full of snot so I had a bad night listening to it and waiting for him to wake up (which he only did once but he was very squiggly!).
The newborn carseats normally are for babies up to 9kg, but you do also need to pay attention to the length of your baby because they aren't any good if the baby is too tall - I think it's something like the tops of their ears should not be over the top of the seat.
We're also rear facing for our eldest (little one still in his first seat obv) in the britax two-way elite. Can't remember what it cost but it is one of the cheaper ones for erf. We felt it was best and it fits in our car nicely, but I've lost count of the number of people who think we are in some way cruel to our daughter because 'she can't see out' [she can look out the back and side windows just not at the back of our seats] or her 'legs are bent' [legs are designed to bend and it doesn't bother her in the slightest having her legs a little bent now that she is finally tall enough that straight legs are an issue].
I've never once had a debate with anyone about going forward facing by the way, but other people seem to think they can comment on what we chose to do (as with so many parenting choices!!).:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls
