Is this because you have scared your "friend" off from having one?
Are the issues you are having related to other changes you have made to thir machine? Please tell us what all you have done to this computer already.
And, as asked the last time, are you being paid/thanked for doing this work?
The reason is that this friend is an elderly woman - who has no experience of computers at all - so I am trying to make it as simple as possible for her (hence the lack of need to "LOGIN" and the use of Classic shell to get rid of the "nasty" interface
Plus - with no log in - less passwords to remember - so why is it apparently impossible to access LIVE MAIL without a PC login and password ?
I am not being paid for this.....0 -
If you're determined to implement classic shell and bypass the login, you'd be better to recommend that your friends buy Windows 7 machines, rather than Windows 8. If they are all buying Windows 8, then you need to learn how to use its features, rather than disabling them.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

Because Live Mail is a Windows application(program), so you need to login to the pc to use any application (program). On a Windows PC including Win 8, you can create a local username+password and then configure it login automatically. The user then does not need to remember this as she will be logged in automatically every time she powers up the PC.:T

Good idea - buy an out of date machine ...0 -

No, buy (or recommend) one you are capable of setting up.
You've made it clear that your friend has bought a Win 8 machine and you have done everything you can to make it like Win 7. You've described the Win 8 interface as "nasty", etc. It's clear you prefer out-of-date to modern, so why not go for an out-of-date machine?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

I dread to think what state the laptop will be in when the 'friend' gets it back after the OP has finished messing with it, they cannot even set up Live Mail on a Windows machine.0

Why not simply set up a web browser based email address? Gmail or Yahoo etc. Then just place a Favs link in browser toolbar.
Be much easier than faffing around with an email client.0 -
Right, I've got the popcorn sorted, this thread looks like it might be mildly entertaining.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
