You can set up any email account you want on it, it's just Microsoft's desktop email program, like Outlook Express was.No free lunch, and no free laptop

The reason for this question is that I have been asked to set up a laptop for a friend - we are having problems in setting up Thunderbird Outgoing server (I know !!)
So thought to try live mail
She is not going to be a regular emailer (never having been on-line before) - so is LIVE MAIL suitable for a complete novice ?0 -
It's very simple - it handles most email addresses automatically so as long as you know the email address & password you should be able to add it
Of course you could have checked the BT website - http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/415590 -
Thanks - I also assume that a BT home hub is treated exactly the same as any other router - for setting up a wireless connection ?
Are there any issues that I need to be aware of ?0 -
Do you need to sign into Windows before using Windows live Mail ?
If so - this defeats the object of using Live mail ....
Because, my friend does not have (or want) a MS address !!0 -

OK, so you're trying to help out another person with computer problems! What happened to the last guy whose hard drive you wanted to format? Do they all think you're a genius because of the answers you get on here?
Anyway, I've gone to the bother of googling Windows Live Mail Help and found this:

You didn't mention the operating system your "friend" is using, but based on your comments, I'll guess it's running a variation of Win8 (or later).
Windows Live Mail has been around for a few years, long before Windows 8 and it worked with non-MS accounts back then, so as long as the person doing the setup can follow simple instructions that are on the Microsoft website, they should be capable of doing it.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
Win 8.1
I have already installed CLASSIC SHELL and modified the user log in to stop her from having to login using an MS address
I have downloaded and installed Windows Live Mail - but when trying to set it up for BTinternet mail - it is looking for an MS address !!0 -

Is this because you have scared your "friend" off from having one?
Are the issues you are having related to other changes you have made to thir machine? Please tell us what all you have done to this computer already.
And, as asked the last time, are you being paid/thanked for doing this work?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

Personally judging by some of things they ask about on this forum I wouldn't let them within ten miles of any of my computers.:D
I just wonder at times if the OP is actually on an IT support desk in India and comes on here to get his problems solved. This happens regularly on Yahoo answers, etc. They get helpful people to provide them with free answers, then charge their customers for the free help they have been given.
Also, if he is being paid for this, then I can invoice him for my time, or write it off against tax.
