Hello Indigo - just as you read it. Sending GBP to AUS ready to go upon my arrival. Money Transfer companies associated with the Uk branch of the Aus bank have called me. I told them I wasn't interested yet. I am going to do it my own way I think. Does that make sense?
I take it you aren't setting up a bank account etc but as I have an Aus passport and intend to start looking for work asap I need this ready to go - also it stops me spending all my money in SEA...;-)
9 days for me - I know how you feel!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
Hi Kat -i hope I am not too late to say 'bon voyage' wishing you the most amazing adventure - you deserve it! I have been a lurker since the early days of your debt clearing and am full of admiration for you. You have been an inspiration for so many of us
last year I was planning to borrow £40, 000 for an extension to our house.... with ur inspiration my hubby and I embarked on a 'year of frugality' and managed to save up £20,000 for the project - hurrah.
It would be great to follow your travels too - I spent over 18months travelling when I left uni - I spent most of that time in india and south east asia (gosh that seems so long ago now - back in the days when backpackers had no mobile phones or internet access!!) I would love to relive a bit of that excitement through ur blog if you would possibly send me the link to it please?
A toast to your travels :beer:

Jakesbakescakes - what a wonderful story. I can't believe you managed to save £20k in one year. Are you plowing on through another year for the rest now..? What's the plant hat would take £40k - I am interested!
Sounds like you had the real travellers experience with no electronics. I often wonder if I have set myself up for something difficult by starting this blogging malarky but I guess it's what I make of it as opposed to writing it for anyone else...
Great to have you along for the ride!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Ha, nope the other half of the funds was raised through extending our mortgage! The money was for a big extension to our house as I run a business from home and wanted to be sure my kiddiwinks had space of their own to escape to! The good news is that the building work we've done has increased the value of the house by the same amount at least so it has been a worthwhile investment too assuming the market remains the same should we ever move
you really shouldn't worry about ur blog - u are a great writer and your audience will be kept captivated I'm sure0 -
Evening all.... am in the library about to be picked up my Mumsy but thought I would stop by and tell you all where I am at. The travel insurance has been bought, £3300 has been transferred to my Australian account and I am awaiting it's arrival, I got a lovely skirt yesterday for £3 from New Look and am think I best get down to packing everything into my rucksack to see about fit....
I like leaving it to the very last though....
I bought a new pair of spectacles from Speccy Four-Eyes Savers as the cheapest ones were the same price as what I had made up in Beijing when I was there plus here I get another pair free... I hate contact lenses, am only bringing three emergency pairs and have a tendency to be a bit clumsy so with only one pair of specs I would be screwed...
Maybe I should get more contact lenses for the whole deep sea diving thing.... Hmmmmmm maybe worth doing here!
Guess it's all wind down time now and it's hard to believe I will be leaving on Monday - the whole Fam is coming to the airport with me which is what I like but it will be hard to say good bye. I shan't cry or say that word "good bye" cause I will only ever be a flight or two away....
The blog is coming along ok.. I know there were a few comments from people that have unfortunately been lost as I changed the layout. This was simply to provide a simpler reading format, bigger font and a more clean page.
Please please find me if you are aware of my blog name and leave comments willy nilly if you want.. I will be grateful for the support however no pressure... and apologies to those who's comments have gone walks.
I have been resting myself in front of the log fire with muggy tap tap tapping away getting some info down for each of the areas on the blog - I will slowly but surely be adding content to them as well so if you want to add comments to the "money" section please do...
I shall be sat on my "booty booty" tonight again with The Apprentice on and seeing what I can come up with...
Over and out for now...“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Hi Kat,
Definitely use contacts for diving. The face masks cannot be worn with glasses at all, and unless you can see ok without your glasses, then you will miss the wonder of the undersea world. And possible lose your buddy if everyone is dressed the same - in black!
Pls can you let me know your blog name - otherwise iIshall be pestering Lilty for it...!
Happy travels!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -

Coming out of hiding to say that your improved blog looks brilliant. I haven't commented on it as of yet (still lurking) but love your Q+A bit.
Must admit, you look nothing like I expected you too. I don't actually know how I expected you to look but it just gave me a bit of a woah moment.
Good luck on your travels. Can't wait to read more.

Haha this made me SMILE! You are very sweet. More pictures were added today with some wit as I don't like taking myself seriously but pictures always make things less boring to read..“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
