A few years ago I was planning a 3 month trip to Oz and was totally unhappy in my job. I was told I could only take 3 weeks and a short while afrter I was told that my doctors advice to stay off work as he suspected I had measles was not justification for time off sick. This added to all the other bits and peices that had been going on led me to walk out there and then. This was a few months before my intended trip. The final outcome was temp work up until I went away and a very relaxed and happy CEW on her travels. Incidently the company I had temped at before going away asked me to go back and I ended up staying for 6 years or so in a job I loved and a much improved salary.
EXACTLY - everything happens for a reason! Perfect story and example - thank you for that!!! :T:T:T“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. I think it's cute that you might be worried you are unduly persuading me - but you are right. I no longer wish to be yolked (brilliant wordage!!)..:T:T:T“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. 70 Days Until I Leave Work!!!
It's also 122 days until I am on a flight back to London and 122 days until I can locate another £6000. Not that I am panicked or anything like that. Gulp!
So I have been thinking about how much I will miss cooking. I am not one who likes eating out at all so I will be avoiding big dine-in restaurants along the way and will be opting for by-the-roadside carts to get my noodle soup and tofu fritters. I am sure there will be options for vegans as it's becoming a massive movement and it's easy to have things cooked without fish paste which will be the biggest problem as some foods are already prepared or marinated.
But then I think to my impending-not-yet-decided resignation and realize that when I do leave it will primarily because I would rather be cooking all day. I just don't know how this translates for me as there is only so much I can eat. And I don't want to be a chef chef...
I just know food, nutrition and cooking will have to work it's way into my new line of work. My travel will be the base for getting new ideas and learning new skills.. I’ve only just seen this post Ninja and to be honest can’t be bothered to read through the full 14 pages!
I packed my job in in 2009 to go travelling for 18months. I am so glad I didn’t have a job to go back to as I think it would have hindered the enjoyment of my trip.
I went Thailand > Laos > Vietnam > Cambodia > Thailand again > Indonesia > Singapore > Australia > New Zealand > Fiji > Australia to work > New Zealand to work/travel > Indonesia > Home
To save me having to read 14 pages of this thread can you briefly pr!cis what your plans are and where you intend to go?!
Edited as I have just noticed you are an Australian citizen!
When I left in 2009 I was 30 and had never travelled outside of Europe before - was the bestest thing I ever did.0 -

Nah! I couldn't be bothered really. But thanks for the comments.“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Looking around my room recently I am annoyed by how much stuff I have. It is driving me mad. So I am going to look to make £100 from listing 100 items for 99p. Just need to find 100 items now. And a spare day to list them all..“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Hello Chickadees...
I want to share this PDF with you called Disrupting The Rabblement. I first came across this during my "debt-busting" year and couldn't finish it. I was already on my journey to disengage from the Rabblement and couldn't push things along faster than it was already going. Reading something that I was already in the middle of, felt so strongly for but couldn't do much more about left me incredibly frustrated.
So affected am I by written word that it can alter my mood somewhat or create such a reaction that I have to move on to another book / magazine etc and so this one had to be put away.
Fast forward until last Friday I finally finished it. I could have written it word for word - and now with 65 days to go - I felt able to fully absorb everything the author has written.
A tee-total, Irish vegan ( although possibly not vegan any more ) it was like the male version of me was talking to me. But it also made me realize that I do not want to create a blog like everyone else.
Niall Doherty has traveled the world without flying. It has been done before. Creating a route though, a journey, a lifestyle that has not been done by another traveler will be hard - therefore I cannot and will not be setting out to find something that is sell-able and interesting. I need to travel for myself.
Now this sound obvious doesn't it. You don't go somewhere just because other people might like it, I am not spending money on an expensive holiday just because another person hasn't been there before.
But how many of us have our noses pressed up against cameras or iPhones so much that we miss what is actually happening in front of us. Life through a lens! That's what I mean by writing. I am not going to go looking for something that will make a good story. I will live my life on the road and wait for the stories to find me.
My blog is taking shape. Watch out for more.“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
Had a quick flick through that PDF – seems really interesting. Thanks for the link.0

Hello there
I have been following your journey for a couple of years and really happy that it's all working out for you.
A friend of mine recently went to Thailand for a couple of weeks and I went round to see his photos when he got back and there weren't that many. When I asked how come he said there was so much to see he didn't want to miss it by taking loads of photos!!!! So I see where your coming from
