It's the button below the big smiley face at the post of the text box. It's like a world and three links.

I agree, plus space in your luggage will be at a premium so the stick blender is definitely better! Interestingly, there's a 15% off coupon for Robert Dyas in the Evening Standard which would take the Nutribullet down to £85! I bet you could sell it before you travel - I hunted high and low for a secondhand one to save me spending the full amount when I bought mine!0 -
Siouxsie I don't need one before I go though as the landlord has a good one. I need something I can take with me.
Hi Peaty! ..how are you?...“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
Just lost my long post about why I am seriously considering resigning. Just don't feel like writing it out again ...GRR! Needless to say it's something that needs serious thought but right now I want out of this place. More later.“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. NSK I know sometimes it feels like you really need to get out NOW but you are so close to your dream so think very hard before you make that move.
Would you still be able to amass the amount of money you want/need to be able to follow your dreams?
Take some time to think it through fully before you act as often things look better in a day or two.
If you are anything like me it's probably just a case of dissatisfaction with your current situation because the situation you want is so near yet still too far away for your liking.
I don't want to sound like I'm telling you what to do but I really don't want you to make what could be a rash mistake, if only because I'm looking forward to reading your travel blog :rotfl:
Think hard and do what is right for you long term. If that really is to quit your current job I know you will still find a way to achieve your goals albeit along a more uncertain route.
Good luck and I know you will make the right decision.

CEW is very right Kat. You're doing amazingly and you have so much outside of work to be happy with.
I don't know what happened, but I know it must be either hurtful or aggravating. If you do quit, remember to focus your CV on transferable skills and accomplishments.
Also, I'm good thanks. Are you well (outside of work that is)? I've been pretty ill recently and demotivated. I spent so much last month you would have smacked me if you had the chance. Will do better this month.:o0 -
Okay.. I knew you would all start to freak out but come on. I am not that stupid.:) I don't mean resign today - I meant in September instead of taking a sabbatical. And here's why....
The only real reason to keep this job is for "something" to come back to. It would be in the interim until I find something better and I would not intend on staying any longer than I would have to. I am under-valued and under-used in this environment. I do not enjoy the position I am in now and have no intention on "climbing the ladder" and I certainly don't want to go back to the position I did before this ( where I currently waste my weekends) - BUT when I return I will be put into a "redeployment pool" - meaning there will be a job but I don't get to choose what it will involve. Obviously they take into consideration where I would be living at that point but the job itself could be anything. I could just as easily get a job in Starbucks.
Secondly there was a "hint" that I "might" (quotations marks as it's all hearsay at the moment) have to sign a new contract upon my return. This means doing away with my weekend premiums, double time at the weekend for OT and new conditions. I have yet to figure this out... But it's the main reason for sticking with them..
Also due to the nature of my job they intend to "keep tabs" on me every 6-8 months. I can't really say much else but the mental strain of not being actually free to see, visit, write and be who I want to be without ties to a company I have no love for really really irks me.
Their conduct over the last two years has annoyed me as well - now does this sounds like a place you want to work?!? Didn't think so.
Yes it's a guaranteed wage when I return but it's not what I want to do for the rest of my life. I have already wasted 7 years here. So why bother tying myself to this company for another 5 years??. If all else fails with my traveling I am savvy enough to get a job anywhere and you know me - I don't mind what I am doing if it's simply to make ends meet. The only real reason I would come back is if something happened to my family... so a job in London wouldn't help if I needed to be in Northern Ireland.
There is a lot of what-ifs... and those what if's seem to center around my failure to grasp this backpacking malarky - which is not going to happen. I intend to start training for and preparing to do a job I love - I REALLY want to be doing a job I love and why not - many people have to do a job they hate to survive but why should I when I have the capacity to change my life over and actually do something worthwhile..
So no I do no want to just hang on to this job for the sake of it. There are other variables to it as you can see. I am plodding along in this job though - it's all encompassing - not your average 0900-1700 like some people have. I need to break free.
However I am not going to act rashly ( have I ever?) because of the money that I can earn until I go. How on earth could any of you believe that I would up and leave now and throw away this epic plan that I have? I just got my payslip - £1500 into the traveling fund this month. I have the fortitude to deal with the obvious that's right in front of me - working 6-7 days a week - like I have been doing for the last 2 years in order to get to this point .
I am hardly going to chuck it in today now am I.“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
Hi nsk ive not been on in a long time and its so lovely to see how your doing and how well the holiday savings are going. Your above plan sounds sensible if you do not fear leaving then leave when the time is right and start fulfilling your dreams better to regret what we have tried and done rather than regret the not trying
im 13 weeks from my due date now cant believe ive made it this far I must say I am looking forward to babies arrival but also getting back to paying down the negative wealth xx

NSK I'm happy I misinterpreted your post. I was rather suprised by it but felt I had to say something.
As regards quitting before you go on your travels then I would say if you are that dissatissified with the situation then quit. It will allow you to go travelling with a totally free heart.
A few years ago I was planning a 3 month trip to Oz and was totally unhappy in my job. I was told I could only take 3 weeks and a short while afrter I was told that my doctors advice to stay off work as he suspected I had measles was not justification for time off sick. This added to all the other bits and peices that had been going on led me to walk out there and then. This was a few months before my intended trip. The final outcome was temp work up until I went away and a very relaxed and happy CEW on her travels. Incidently the company I had temped at before going away asked me to go back and I ended up staying for 6 years or so in a job I loved and a much improved salary.
I would never say that walking out of a job is the best move to make but on this occasion it was the best thing for me to do at the time
The moral of the story is do what you feel will make YOU happy. Life is far too short to spend it worrying or unhappy.

I've never been in this situation, so I speak only from opinion, not experience...
It sounds like they want to shackle you whilst you are away. Or keep you on toddler reins so you can't run off without them knowing. You may not stay away for the whole 5 years; you may want to stay longer or settle elsewhere.
Cutting yourself free would release you to fully pursue your dreams, without having to try to please 'the management'. No longer yolked to the company means you are free.
There. I've said it! Ultimately, we all know that you aren't swayed by others and will make your own mind up in your own time. Whatever you decide, we will support you all the way!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0
