  • We were ttc for 3 years and on the verge of IVF. I cried hysterically when I got my BFP partly out of disbelief, mainly out of pure terror! It's totally normal! :) I still feel scared now at 28 weeks and am somewhat overwhelmed by how life changing this is! :) I went skiing at 6 weeks and spent most of it face down hurtling down a mountain- I wouldn't recommend this but just to reassure you that the odd fall didn't seem to affect me. xxx My one tip would be to read Expecting Better by Emily Oster. I found it so reassuring on the what to do/ not to do malarkey- it gives you the evidence and helps you make your own decisions. :)

What she said! We were lucky in that I was also on the pill for 10+ but it was much quicker to conceive than we dared hope so was a big surprise. In addition to Emily Oster keep doing what you're doing - ask questions. These forums are awealth of knowledge and for someone who hadn't done much pre-reading it was great to get specific feedback and to know what other people were going through.

For example, many of us had dodgy tummies in the first trimester (possibly folic acid related) which was entirely unexpected!

I am 24+3 and have many days still where I turn to DH and say we're not ready for this! I think you never are and if you think you are, you've probably got an idea in your head of what it'll be like but it's completely unpredictable so you're likely to be disappointed.

Also a far few of us have also not enjoyed pg particuarly as it is quite hard work often so don't feel guilty either if in addition to the terror you don't enjoy too much of it! it does get easier in the second trimester (although not till 15/16 weeks for me!)

There is a list on this thread for new joiners but lots of people don't feel ready to join it too soon so I imagine it's miles back if you want to find it.

Thanks for your replies. I braved telling my sister in law today who has a 9 month old & explained how I felt & she said she was the same! Thank goodness it's not just me. Thanks for the book recommendation - I was thinking I should do some research. Hopefully this sheer terror will pass!
Thank you ladies, much appreciated :)

    Hello ladies.

Right scan yesterday....baby was still measuring with same due date but was being a monkey and wouldn't lie in right place. Anatomically all beautiful. Got 7 pics in the end. Had to go walk around for half hour to drink and eat and make him shift, jumping as well. Baby has strong hb and swallowing well, jumping, kicking etc....

So looks like I graduate...but I will still come back and talk to you as it is quite evident I was crazy first tri and you can't be worse than I was xx

Part Mouse - Every baby grows a bit differently, and I think with some you can't see the heartbeat until nearly 7 weeks! I'm not going to tell you to not stress, it's nearly impossible to not stress.

I can't remember where I read this, but I keep repeating this to myself: as far as I know, everything is ok with me and baby, I am pregnant, and I will enjoy today! :)
