Angeltreats - oops that is a bit funny though!
I had my booking in yesterday. The midwife was lovely but said they might be having a reshuffle around so might have different one. Last time i had about 5 different ones so not that worried.
I will have to see a consultant at 24 weeks as had a previous c section and go to a vbac class to decide how I want to give birth. Midwife said I just need to push for what I want.
Now just have to wait for scan letter...0 -

Just added in my scan date. Not going to get to see a midwife for another few weeks as I can't get a booking app at the same time.
Long story alert so bear with me please!
Have had a truly horrendous few days. On Fri I started to bleed, quite heavily. Was in such a state of panic so rushed to the EPU at the local hospital. They couldn't scan me until Tue, but the lovely midwife took pity on me and called someone that she used to work with at another hospital and got me an appointment there. Thankfully baby was fine, wee heartbeat and moving about lots. They couldn't see a reason for the bleeding, but as I wasn't cramping and the baby was ok, they didn't seem worried. However, during the scan they diagnosed the baby as having a Cystic Hygroma, which is a strong indicator of a chromosome disorder, such as Downs Syndrome. They made us an appointment on Monday at a specialist foetal medicine unit to see a consultant. Then they started to tell us that we needed to think about whether we would want a disabled child and if we would terminate the pregnancy! We were in total shock and spent the most horrendous weekend trying to somehow think about what we would do, I am sure you can all imagine how hard it was. Bled very heavily on Fri night, and passed a huge clot (TMI, sorry) but still not in any pain and its has subsided to just spotting now, so trying not to worry about that.
Anyway, Monday we see the top consultant in foetal medicine in Scotland who says that our baby is fine and that he can see no evidence of what they thought they saw on the Friday at the other hospital! :j Everything is perfect and within normal limits (the main measurement is the fluid at the back of the babies neck but there are other signs). He looked at the scan pics from Friday and says even on them he can't see why they diagnosed the hygroma and was very apologetic that they couldn't see us sooner and that we had to go through such a horrible weekend. So, I've to go back to them next Fri when I'll be 12+4 just to be sure, but he is 98% certain that our baby is fine.
Phew, its been an emotional roller coaster for sure and we are only just getting over it. My DH is a paediatric nurse so he sees kids with these conditions on a daily basis and what it does to their families so he took it really badly. We are just trying to relax now and forget what happened and try and enjoy the pregnancy.
Angeltreats - the wind is terrible and really uncomfortable. I find it worse after greasy or carb laden food. I had (homemade) battered fish last night and boy did I suffer! DH was laughing too and I almost gave him a swift kick to his man bits, but that would have involved me moving off the floor!
Tink - I am so pleased that your baby is doing well, it is so reassuring when you see the heartbeat!
Wendz - glad your app went well!
Monty - sorry you are having such a stressful time at work, your boss sounds like a total b**ch! Hope things improve soon, even if it is just by you leaving, but if you have the energy then fight her all the way!
Mouthscradle - have the cramps eased up any?
Love and Star, how are you guys?
Hugs to everyone xxxx0 -
Sewit - Oh my goodness that was a really tough weekend for you and your DH.
Really happy that everything is fine after all and will hope that you will good better news at the next scan.
Afm - 5+1 today and looking forward from yearly scan on 24/04/2014 really worried that they may not find anything inside as I do not have any symptoms:(Saving goal for BTL mortgage - 28600 / 60000 ( July 2021) , 37600/60000 (December 2021) , 39300 / 60000 (august 2022) , 41000/60000 ( January 2023)0 -
Husband almost made me go to A&E in the night cos the cramps arrived with a vengeance at 1am and lasted about an hour. I couldn't lie down. I was on all fours doing deep breathing and crying. It was intense cramps and backache in my lower back. I must admit I was scared it's an ectopic pregnancy but I'm not sure the pain would come and go with that, I think once it got severe it would stay like that. He phoned the local maternity unit for advice, really useless woman just said call your gp... Like they can do anything?!
But I'm now wondering if it could be trapped wind. As I also have serious bloating, my stomach has been like a big balloon for the last week and when I lie in bed at night I can feel wind moving around in there as if they were baby kicks! Haha.
So I really don't know what to do. I'm only 4+3 so I don't think a scan would see anything and I don't know if my epau would even see me as I've had no spotting at all. I don't really want to go to hospital if its just wind... Anyone know any pregnancy safe remedies for wind that I can try?
We're going to visit my parents today for a long weekend and I'm terrified of this happening while we're there. They don't know I'm pg yet and I was hoping not to tell them yet as I'm convinced all this cramping means I'm going to miscarryMother, wife, scientist, analyst.

Omg Sewit how stressful for you I am glad that you have a man on the case and that you are being looked after..
AFM - I was woken up in agony at 1am with crampsphoned the EPU and because of my history I am having an emergency scan at 3.30 this afternoon , have to say the EPU were fantastic when I rang and thankfully we don't have the long Easter weekend to wait around stressing. Xxx
Ttc39- hope you are doing ok sending more love and hugs xxxIf you can think it........it will happen0 -
Thanks for your good wishes LA. At 5 weeks I didn't have any symptoms either, just a bit bloated. TBH at 11+2 I don't have many, other than bloating and wind. If you have not had any cramping or bleeding, then chances are that things are fine. I had the same worries when I went for my early scan at 8 weeks and nothing can make you think otherwise. Try and stay calm and enjoy that you have no symptoms (easier said than done, I know!)
Mouths - do you feel like the cramps are in your womb? My trapped wind is much higher up, in my stomach and I can literally feel the hardness and then it going down as the wind subsides. If I was in that much pain, I would make an app with my GP to discuss, they will be able to advise and also give advice on remedies you can take to ease the wind. Could you try and get a phone app today before you go?0 -
huge hugs Tink - really hope everything is fine for you. How are the cramps now and have you had any bleeding? Keep us posted when you feel you can. xxxx0

mouthscradle. With my first ectopic, I was around 5+3 weeks and I had intense sudden sharp pain that came in waves all one sided (the side the ectopic was) I had to go to A&E and was finally given morphine as the pain was so severe, I had no bleeding. My ectopic had ruptured. But the pain was not cramp like at all, it was very sharp like a knife stabbing.
If you are severely worried about ectopic I would visit your A&E or your local EPU as left unchecked it can be very dangerous (my life was in danger when mine ruptured) they may see nothing on a scan but can check your HCG levels and do other checks to try to ascertain the location of the pregnancy.
It does sound like trapped wind though, which we all know can be horrifically painful and many people have been to hospital with 'just' trapped wind because it is so painful. Peppermint is supposed to help a lot with trapped wind, try cordial or tea or even just sucking mints.
They say one thing to look out for with ectopic is shoulder tip pain, this is caused by abdominal bleeding irritating nerves (pain transferring) I didn't have this with my 1st ectopic but did with the 2nd one.
Not intending to scare or worry anybody, just my experience of ectopic pregnancies and what I would do in your situation. If anything it sounds like you need to know what is going on, if only to reassure you.
Good luck x2 angels in heaven :A0 -
SewIt that is so scary, I don't know how you got through the weekend. So glad everything is ok but you must have been in a right state
fingers crossed everything continues to be ok.
Tink sending you and your wee bean lots of love.
Mouthscradle don't know what to suggest but it may well have been trapped wind, if you've not had it before you'd be surprised just how painful it can be. Mine is lower down in my bowel I think (I need to fart rather than burp it out, sorry if TMI) but the pain is very intense and makes you want to get down on all fours. I'd get checked out just to be on the safe side though.
Had my booking appointment and the midwife was lovely, I was worried they might force me to go down the consultant route rather than the midwife unit as my BMI is over 30 (it's 31) but she says no, I'm low risk, and she is happy for me to give birth at the midwife unit and hopefully have the water birth I want. She talked a lot about breastfeeding and mother & toddler groups and it just all seems so far away in the distant future, the last two and a half weeks have been the longest of my life, I have another four to get through (maybe even more) till my 12 week scan, I can't even begin to think of when the baby might actually be here! Wish I had a time machine so I could skip ahead.0
