Wow. This baby growing thing is really amazing. I know that's a really cliche'd thing to say, but seriously... it's stunning.0 -
I had a cone biopsy then loop diathermy then something else which I've forgotten the name of but not trachelectomy. If tac is permanent does that mean you will have a c section? How safe is the op while you are pregnant?0

Just reading online, it might have been that. I just can't remember it was eight years ago0

A loop should not remove all your cervix, but actually sometimes they can be quite extensive and end up relatively similar to a trach. I'd ask them to measure your cervical length soon if you can convince someone to have a look.
Yes, delivery has to be by C-section, but the TAC stays in place and can support more than one pregnancy. If you have no cervix I think you would need a C-section too, but of course this all varies depending on your own situation so please don't take my word for anything!
I don't want to force my views on you, or worry you, as each situation is unique so please don't let anything I say here worry you! I can only say that in my case I was really told there is no choice, and the chance of making it to viability was quite low without some treatment. The TVC gives support, but not as much as a TAC so I pushed for that, plus my consultant is a big advocate of them.
The TAC isn't that well known, but NHS will give you one if eligible. Maybe PM me if you want more details?0 -
I have had two scans at the early pregnancy unit and am now waiting the midwife to contact me, I was told she will do an initial medical assessment and I just presumed it would be decided from there. I don't know who else to speak to, I feel a little bit lost esp as we didn't use ivf or anything so we've no support network.0

Would you believe I'm five weeks into a brand new job. Bloody typical. No sick pay or mat pay. I miss it by about 9 days!0
-
tcod, you have the same due date as me now0

Monty (our car is called Monty) with DS I missed the SMP dates by about 2 days when I started a new job, but got paid SMP anyway
Hopefully you'll be the same! x

Monty, the midwife should refer you to a consultant. You may need to push it though, and perhaps try to get your old consultant to write a referral letter for you. Don't let them not refer you for a quick consultation, preferably before or around your week 12 scan.
An EPU scan wouldn't check your cervical length as standard. I had mine checked at week 10, but even then the scan tech only did it as he was a bit freaked out by my history. He wasn't even sure if it was ok to do a vaginal ultrasound! It's not something that would jump out at them either.0 -
I'll get maternity allowance. I don't think I'll be able to go back to the same job I travel about 1.5 hrs each way and it's hard work sometimes work 12-13 hour days but I'm hoping if I prove myself they will accommodate me elsewhere in the business on 24-32 hours. Fingers and toes crossed.0
