added my details now, need Tuesday to come quickly for my scan. Going to tell a couple of friends our news this weekend, hoping I don't lose them as friends as we were always a group of 3 who didn't really do children. I think I'm finally over the shock of getting pregnant, it's only taken 7 weeks! how silly is that? going to tell work on Wednesday which is worrying me a little to be honest.0 -
So I told work today. I bought in cupcakes, and sent an email to my team. I had to let people know a bit early so we can prepare for my month off.
Everyone has been wonderful!! They are all so pleased for me, and I think it is genuine as most were here last year and saw me go through all the stress and worry of the cancer treatment. They all know it's IVF and I was surprised how many people instantly understood that this was a high-risk pregnancy and why I would need an operation. It's almost all middle aged blokes, so I was surprised as the level of immediate understanding. It seems all these men do listen to their wives when they are pregnant.
But a lovely experience, and so nice to have it all in the open now.
Hope your anxiety gets better Danielle, and bring on Wednesday.
What op are you having? I have to have stitches put in as I've no cervix but this will be done at 13 weeks they said.0 -
Thank you all for wondering about me! Everything is scarily fine. Saw a 9.6cm baby waving its arms and legs, been dated at 13+6 now and edd 13/09. Had first appointment to measure cervix length yesterday which doctor was happy with (it's 3.6cm and Dr Google seems to think that's fine) so they're not worried and don't want to see me until 20 weeks again. I also got the NT scan/ blood results today which I thought was super quick considering they only took them on Monday. Came back low risk at 1 in 8800 so I'm happy with those odds and glad that I had the test, couldn't have dealt with not knowing and tormenting myself.
I don't want to leave this thread- not sure I'm ready for the next one up as it still all feels so unreal!
Peonie, I keep having cramps but they feel stretchy rather than contracty if that makes sense? I spoke to mil (mw) about them and she said they're totally normal and you do start to get ligament stretching as the womb starts moving up.
My symptoms are pretty much gone other than the neverending cold that will not go and the ever expanding and sore boobs. I'm starting to mellow a bit more about it though I'm still not telling any colleagues in work until they have to ask if i'm fat or pregnant. My manager knows and I'm making it official next Thursday so I'll have to arrange a meeting with HR then to see how they calculate mat leave pay etc. It all seems so very grown up and not anything I'd every expected to do. I told my surviving grandparents yesterday and they're so excited about their first great-grandchild. I always thought they'd never get to meet it but it seems like this is really happening now!
Hope everyone is OK!0 -
TCD - glad all is well. 9cm seems huge though! My bean is only 3.2cm, will it grow that much in two weeks??
We are all not far behind you, and will see you on the next thread. It's funny after years on the TTC threads how quickly you move through these ones.monty-doggy wrote: »What op are you having? I have to have stitches put in as I've no cervix but this will be done at 13 weeks they said.
I'm having a trans-abdominal cerclage (TAC). I had surgery to remove my cervix to treat cervical cancer. What is the reason for your cervical problems?0 -
Same, cervical cancer. Now I'm worried if I've not paid attention and it's a bigger op than I thought, I just assumed they put stitches in and away I go, do you need a month off to recover?
I've also got poly cystic ovaries, endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease. Hence why falling pregnant naturally after 4/5 years is a big shock.0 -
Monty, it depend if they are doing it vaginally or abdominally. The vaginal option is easier to recover from, but isn't as effective as a TAC. You may end up on bestrest. Did you have a trachelectomy?
Here are the locations for the cerclage. The bottom three can be done from the vagina, and the top one is done like a C-section through the abdomen. TAC is permanent.0 -

At my last private scan it was 3.6 cm. The 9cm includes legs so is approximate but basically it will double in a couple of weeks. It was weird as at the 10 week scan I could see it's arms, on this one i could see fingers!0
