No buying unnecessary toiletries in January 2014

This has been asked on the thread before but I can't remember the answer!! I bought myself a few Lush bath bombs in the sale and would like to break them at least into halves rather than using a whole bath bomb in one bath. How do people do this? (without using a hammer!)
You don't have to cut them or anything, all you need is an old flannel. Just put it in the bath and let it fizz, once it's fizzed all you want it to, take it out and firmly pat it dry with the flannel and leave it to dry completely, then it'll be fine to use for next time, hthNo Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2023

this is what I used to do, wasn't sure if it was a good tactic or not though lol.

morning all
thought id just posted but cant find it now.
found the stash list i wrote about 3 years ago when i was in this thread before going to get it all out and do an update list so i can see if ive actually decreased any during this time.
currently working on a tresor body lotion, its going a bit watery but still smells lovely so suing it up before it deteriorates any more. got an almost used up make up remover as well but i think its my last bottle so might need to replace that.SPC~12 ot 124

Three more uu to report today, I am doing really well so far and these three make eleven uu so far:
Lancôme Dreamtone 7ml, this is my second sample of this and it is lovely, I have some minor scarring on my cheeks and they have definitely improved. I have already bought a full size so will move straight onto that.
Cerutti 1881 EDT 30ml, love this and have already replaced it with a 100ml bottle. I will be moving onto my almost finished Burberry perfume for now though.
Pantene Aqua Light Conditioner - 300ml - WMBA

Morning ladies.
Happy new year.
I think I Need to rejoin you, I was doing really well and haven't bought anything unnecessary for going on for two years. Then I got carried away and treated myself to two sets of the soap and glory Yule Monty, now I seem to have slipped back into obsessing over toiletries again. I am trying so hard to resist using my s&g voucher on more skincare that I don't need.
I have started writing a stash list, it could take sometime as I have stuff everywhere. So far I have done a storage box under the bed, the swimming bag and my works bag.
I have loads of travel size conditioners, I don't use conditioner myself and I only use tea tree conditioner on the girls. I was wondering if it would be possible to add some tea tree oil to the conditioner, what do you think?Crazy clothes challenge 2012 £105.50/£480 :jItems removed from wardrobe 16

totallybored wrote: »Hi Ladies, I've just discovered this amazing thread and wondered if I could join. Someone mentioned it over on the old style board on a thread for food hoarders and it made me consider how many toiletries I also own:eek:
I know the thread is no buying for Jan but I don't think I need to buy anything until about 2016 apart from toothpaste and tampons (do you count those as toiletries?). I have no idea how I've accumulated so much stuff and I'd hate to think how much money I've spent. I have 100+ nail varnishes, 30+ shower gels, an entire box full of body lotions (I don't even use them!), over 100 hand sanitisers, a cupboard full of foot cream inc 5 foot sock skin peeler kit things (they are amazing though) plus mountains of make up, perfume and other stuff. I'll try to make a list but it will take some time. I also have a scented candle hoard but this might be the wrong place for that!
Hopefully now I've found this thread I can stop some of my unnecessary purchasing!
How do you find the foot peeler socks? I've been looking at them on amazon they look very messy. Are they worth it? Does the hard skin come back?Crazy clothes challenge 2012 £105.50/£480 :jItems removed from wardrobe 16

Thanks for the bath bomb tips people. I am a bit scared of trying to break them up with a chisel so will try the flannel method first, thanks Kadison.
Have a lovely day out Dolly. I am trying to stop myself from going to Boots.....0 -
Laura mercier vanilla bath &body gift set - it's due any day now..I have the fig one and adore the vanilla scent so very excited
We got Emma the gift set of 4 x the 100ml jars of Laura Mercier body souffle and so far she has used the Vanilla and Creme Brulee ones. They smell divine on her. Am hoping there will be one that she does not like!rogueylawyer wrote: »I've also made lots of soups to take to work over the next three weeks, so am working on taking better care of myself both at home and work. I'm curled up on the sofa with my laptop, tv and about to make a cup of tea. Hope everyone is keeping warm on this horrible grey day!
I think it's perfectly ok to splurge on sales items if they are products you know you would use anyway. Plus you used Advantage Points.
I too have started making soups again. Have today had a very filling veggie broth. It started out with a pretty white frost here, but that changed by mid-morning and has been cold and wet all day, made a quick visit to farm shop for fresh veg and treated OH and myself to coffee and cake.
I don't think it stopped raining all day yesterday. Didn't bother to leave the house.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Does this mean that you can return empty black pots to Lush for them to give you some kind of freebie? I didn't know this. This has been asked on the thread before but I can't remember the answer!! MrM broke our Cinders bath ballistic in half with his teeth :rotfl:Only joking! No, he did use a hammer after scoring around the seal with a sharp knife first. Maybe try a rolling pin if you don't have a hammer?SarahB1989 wrote: »Oh I definitely need to join this thread! No idea how big the stash genuinely is as it's split across four houses (my flat, the flat I'm staying atm for uni placement, my parents house, and my boyfriends house)... which is my justification for having so much stuff - have to fly to the boyfriends so tis easier to keep full size toiletries at his than drag minis up and down the country. I know I have enough body wash to last til 2015 though...
Sold 4 mini tubes of perfumed lotions (the ones you get in giftsets) on eBay this week but gained Lacura AQUA-Complete serum and Lacura night cream, oops. Will need hair dye this month but nothing else, so trying to avoid popping into Boots 'just to look'!
With a chisel...
Not even joking, I just stick the end of the chisel in and wiggle it a bit, and it splits in two. All the ones I've had have a line round them where the edge of the mould must have been when it was made, and I've found they split pretty well along that. Lack a chisel, if your cutlery has flat metal ends that would work (obv the non-eating end of it!)
Buying minis of products is pretty costly. Maybe you should invest in some refillable bottles (I've previously picked these up from Superdrug) and decant products into these to take to your other places of residence.
Well done on your sales. I was going to ebay some things yesterday but it turned into a disaster. Took photos of the products then our stupid PC would not recognise the drive that the SD card was in. Then went on a real go slow. Then crashed.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge.
