Time for a new cat tree

Looked everywhere on the usual sites and can not find what I am looking for.

I am not looking for a big ie tall cat tree - I am looking for a cat tree for BIG CATS.

With Teddy being 8kg, Fred around 7kg and George not much behind those 2 - Macius does not count, he is a mini cat :)... I need a very stable tree with wide parts and big openings into "boxes" on the tree.

All I see are tall trees but they are not wide enough to accommodate my boys..

Ideally I would like exactly the same I have now but the company dissapeared and can not find anything remotely similar even..

Tried all the usual, zooplus, ebay, online pet places and all the have under "large cat trees" are tall but with too narrow parts...

I do not want it too tall, 160cm max - so they can see out of the window sitting on top. But all shelves need to be wide and solid and openings need to be big enough for my tigers to be able to get in...

Any pointers?

I need to find something too as Asbo has now decided that using stair carpet is the way forward..!!...not just for sleeping but as a scratch area, she'll have it shredded within a few months at this rate.

I got her a new cat scratch a while ago....40 smackeroonies down the swanny as she won't even look at it which I don't understand. I may have to get one of the carpet types to put on stairs. The new cat scratch is also on stairs landing half way up where she likes to hang out, but she won't use it...very frustrating.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

  • Calicocat, have you tried covering your existing post with some similar carpet off cuts?

One of ours liked to use the carpet until we made a large post (tall and sturdy enough for a full height stretch) and covered it with the carpet off cuts. Ours has carpet round the post and on the bottom.

We just used nails or long staples to keep the carpet in place. The best thing is when it looks tatty we take the old layer off and add a new one. Much cheaper than buying new posts. I have to say it is one of the best things we ever made, it saved our sofa and our carpets.

I would post a photo but don't know how.

We had the same problem recently and after much head scratching went for this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ancol-Acticat-Scratch-Post-70cm/dp/B001159A7W the Fat Boy. It's just a scratching post but it's huge and it lets our oldest stand up straight whilst having a right go at it.
  • I've got one like yours I bought it on ebay (but this was 3 1/2 years ago).

1st and 2nd from left - the "pouch on top" no good , second holes to get inside too small, third one would be great if it had more shelves - I got 4 boys that all like to look out of the window..

My current one is absolutely ideal but can not find it anywhere anymore :(

Got enough shelves, right width and at the right height to my window.....

My daughter got one recently from ebay for her 2 girls, looks good on photos but when I was there at Xmas - realised it would be too "wobbly" for my heavy weight boys...

    sighhhh

This^ is your best bet, Im sure someone would do one to your cats requiremets. Where I am theres various people who make rabbit hutches etc that would surley do you one for a reasonable price.
Its better than getting one and your cats falling off the ledges because they are too big etc.
